After pre-heating, the method may include welding a removed area of the cast iron component using a Cold Metal Transfer (CMT) process with a consumable wire electrode made from one of a carbon steel alloy, a nickel alloy, or a nickel-iron alloy material having a Coefficient of Thermal Expansion (CTE) that is within ±10% of a CTE of the cast iron material of the cast iron component to fill the area where the damaged or defective portion was removed.
