  • Patent number: 8138620
Abstract: A method for providing an output power to a load is described. The method includes coupling a multi-thread power converter system to an alternating current (AC) generator and to a load and monitoring at least one operating characteristic of the AC generator. The method also includes providing the multi-thread power converter system with one of a first switching pattern and a second switching pattern based at least partially on the at least one monitored operating characteristic. The method also includes configuring the multi-thread power converter system to operate in accordance with the first switching pattern and the second switching pattern and to convert an AC input power provided by the generator to an output power for delivery to the load.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 12, 2009
Date of Patent: March 20, 2012
    Assignee: General Electric Company
Inventors: Robert Gregory Wagoner, Anthony Klodowski

  • Patent number: 7629705
Abstract: A method for operating an electrical machine includes coupling the electrical machine to an electric power system such that the electric power system is configured to transmit at least one phase of electric power to and from the electrical machine. The method also includes configuring the electrical machine such that the electrical machine remains electrically connected to the electric power system during and subsequent to a voltage amplitude of the electric power system operating outside of a predetermined range for an undetermined period of time.

  • Publication number: 20070024059
Abstract: A system and method for power control in wind turbines are provided. The method includes switching a plurality of switching devices in a power conversion component of the wind turbine system in a normal switching mode to provide power flow through the power conversion component. The method further includes switching the plurality of switches devices in the power conversion component of the wind turbine system in a short circuit switching mode to prevent power flow through the power conversion component.
