  • Publication number: 20150354481
Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for controlling an engine using pre-chamber ignition. According to at least one aspect of the present disclosure, the system includes a pre-chamber ignition system in communication with a combustion cylinder of the engine. The ignition system includes a pre-chamber having a pre-chamber injector, an igniter, and a pre-chamber port structured to introduce a purge gas into the pre-chamber. The system further includes an exhaust gas recirculation system to dilute a main charge introduced into the cylinder. The ignition system improves engine efficiency and lowers emissions.

  • Publication number: 20150345433
Abstract: A unique engine system has an engine with a dedicated exhaust gas recirculation cylinder, an EGR system that receives exhaust gas from the dedicated cylinder, and a turbocharger having turbine inlet ports in fluid communication with other engine cylinders via a plurality of exhaust passages. At least two of the exhaust passages are substantially isolated from each other. Other embodiments include apparatuses, systems, devices, hardware, methods, and combinations for engines and engine systems.

  • Patent number: 9194307
Abstract: Systems and methods for fuelling a plurality of cylinders of an internal combustion engine are disclosed. The system includes a dedicated exhaust gas recirculation system for recirculating exhaust gas flow from at least one dedicated cylinder of an engine into an intake system prior to combustion. The system further includes a fueling system to provide a first flow of fuel to each of the plurality of cylinders and a second flow of fuel to each of the dedicated cylinders that is in addition to the first flow of fuel.

  • Publication number: 20150176513
Abstract: A system includes an internal combustion engine having a number of cylinders, with at least one of the cylinder(s) being a primary EGR cylinder that is dedicated to provided EGR flow during at least some operating conditions. A controller is structured to control combustion conditions in the cylinders in response to one or more operating conditions associated with the engine.

  • Publication number: 20150159588
Abstract: A system includes an internal combustion engine having a number of cylinders. At least one of the cylinders is a primary EGR cylinder that solely provides EGR flow during at least some operating conditions. Operation of the primary EGR cylinder is controlled separately from the other cylinders to reduce internal residuals in the primary EGR cylinder.

  • Publication number: 20140278011
Abstract: For exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) fueling control, at least one donor cylinder of a plurality of cylinders in an engine provides exhaust gas to an air intake for the plurality of cylinders. A fuel variable restriction initially provides fuel concurrent with an intake stroke for the at least one donor cylinder in response to a transition from withholding the fuel to the plurality of cylinders.
