Abstract: A measuring and dispensing closure member for a container of granulated material has a variable capacity dispensing mechanism, oppositely pivotable barrier members for alternately opening an inlet to the dispensing mechanism after closing its outlet and closing the inlet before opening the outlet, barrier operating mechanism including an operating member having a generally rectilinear path of operating motion inwardly and outwardly of the closure member and contained in an area of the closure member having a cross-section suitable for grasping in one hand, the operating member being accessible for operation by the thumb or a finger of such hand, and adjustment mechanism for varying the capacity of the dispensing mechanism from the exterior of the closure member.

Abstract: A granular material dispenser is provided preferably as a closure member for a container of the material, which comprises a variable capacity dispensing mechanism, with operating mechanism therefor oppositely pivotable about an axis to alternately close the outlet end of the dispensing mechanism and thereafter open its inlet end to the container, and to close the inlet end and thereafter open the outlet end, and adjustment mechanism for varying the capacity of the dispensing mechanism and visually indicating its adjusted capacity. In the illustrated embodiment, the dispensing mechanism is a single, variable capacity compartment in fixed location relative to the container, and barrier members are reciprocally movable about an axis to open and close its ends.

Abstract: A measuring and dispensing device for granular material has a container for the material with an outlet at the bottom and a plurality of dispensing compartments open at top and bottom fixed at the outlet. A barrier member and a closure member are reciprocable in unison across the tops and bottoms respectively of the compartments so that on movement of the members in one direction the barrier member closes the top of each successive compartment before the closure member closes its bottom, and on movement thereof in the opposite direction the closure member opens the bottom of each successive compartment before the barrier member opens its top. Control means are provided accessible from the exterior for selectively stopping the movement of the members at each position of respective registry with the successive compartments. The device can be adjusted to selectively fill and then dispense the compartments maintained normally empty, or to selectively dispense the compartments maintained normally full.
