  • Patent number: 10584652
Abstract: Methods and systems for operating an engine with an electrically driven compressor are described. In one example, a model in a controller determines one or more temperatures of the electrically driven compressor to establish a power output upper threshold that is not to be exceeded by the electrically driven compressor. Various actuators may be adjusted responsive to the power output upper threshold to reduce the possibility of electrically driven compressor degradation.

  • Patent number: 10578013
Abstract: The disclosed inventive concept allows an underlying component requiring servicing to be serviced without removing the heat shield entirely. The heat shield has two ends and an intermediate bendable area that allows it to flex, thereby giving the service technician access to the underlying component when only some of the fasteners are removed. The intermediate area of the heat shield is formed from a series of parallel and alternating ridges and grooves. The intermediate area of the heat shield is nominally flat and straight while the bellows are formed in the straight area by a process such as stamping. This combination of a flat and bellow enables the heat shield to be bent out of position and then restored to the original position after service. The heat shield may be entirely formed from a metal or the intermediate bendable area may be composed of a polymerized material such as rubber.

  • Patent number: 10337529
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for a compressor of a turbocharger of an engine. In one example, a compressor may include a flow passage and a resonance chamber surrounding the flow passage, with the flow passage fluidly coupled with the resonance chamber by a recirculation passage, a bleed passage, and a plurality of apertures positioned between the recirculation passage and the bleed passage. Flowing fluid from the resonance chamber, through the apertures, and into the flow passage may reduce a noise level of the compressor.

  • Patent number: 10138781
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for expediting light-off of a catalyst during engine cold-start conditions by inhibiting rotation of the turbocharger shaft. In one example, a method may include inhibiting rotation of the turbocharger shaft during engine cold-start conditions until the catalyst is operating at a desired efficiency. The rotation of the shaft may be inhibited via either a passive or an active shaft locking mechanism.

  • Publication number: 20160358360
Abstract: Methods and systems for generating a composite image. One method includes receiving a plurality of images and selecting a base image from the plurality of images, wherein the base image includes a base object. The method also includes generating a stack of images by layering a first image included in the plurality of images on top of the base image, the first image including a first object, aligning the first object with the base object, and adjusting a transparency parameter of at least one of the first image and the base image to make the base image viewable through the first image. The method further includes combining the base image and the first image to generate the composite image, wherein the composite image represents a view of the stack of images from a top of the stack of images to the base image.
