  • Patent number: 5858160
Abstract: Disclosed are decorative surface coverings of the "inlaid" type having embossed patterns in register with inlaid patterns. Disclosed methods include the steps of: applying in a pattern on a first surface of a foamable layer an agent for modifying the foaming of said foamable layer to produce a foamable layer having a pattern of relatively nonfoamable areas and relatively foamable areas; applying a first collection of particulate resinous material substantially only to said areas containing said foaming modifier or only to said areas not containing said foaming modifier; and foaming said foamable layer in said relatively foamable areas.

  • Patent number: 5830937
Abstract: Disclosed are coating compositions, wearlayer compositions and surface covering products which utilize wearlayer compositions. The wearlayer compositions of the present invention are capable of at once exhibiting high initial gloss values and excellent resistance to scuff, stain and gloss loss. Such wearlayer compositions are produced utilizing curable coating compositions which comprise thermoplastic polymer, from about 3% by weight to about 25% by weight of plasticizer for the thermoplastic polymer and at least about 30% by weight of reactive crosslinking agent. The weight ratio of the thermoplastic polymer to the crosslinking agent is preferably no greater than about 2:1.

  • Patent number: 5411811
Abstract: A monolithic particle-containing layer in multi-layered sheeting (for example, sheeting of the type comprising resilient vinyl flooring) is produced by applying a composition comprising a liquid material having dispersed therein decorative particles (for example, a vinyl plastisol containing dispersed vinyl dryblend particles) to a surface of a layer of the multi-layered sheeting, the application of the composition being preferably by the reverse roll coating method.

  • Patent number: 4008349
Abstract: A method is disclosed for continuously applying a resinous wear-resistance surface of finish coating to a traveling web substrate which comprises moving the web into a free hanging loop, continuously feeding the liquid resin coating composition into the loop at a rate so as to maintain at least a slight overflow of the composition at the sides of the loop, withdrawing the web upwardly from the loop with a thin coating of the resin applied thereto, and then heating the coated web for drying the coating.

  • Patent number: 3996328
Abstract: A method for finishing resinous sheet material wherein the sheet material is adhered to a support surface and is passed through a pressure nip having an upper hard, very smooth, resiliently backed finishing surface and a lower support surface, the outer surface of the sheet material being maintained between about 100.degree. F and 300.degree. F while moving through the nip, the heat being provided from previous processing steps, without adding any additional heat at the finishing step, and subsequently cooling the sheet material after it has passed through the nip.
