Patent number: 10770744Abstract: Apparatus, methods and systems are provided for cooling high power batteries. A plurality of carrier assemblies is stacked to form a cell stack. Each carrier assembly has a thermally conductive backing plate and a frame integrally formed therewith. A lithium-ion pouch cell (having a pair of cell tabs) is adhered to a front surface of the backing plate. Each cell tab is paired with a tab of opposite polarity of an adjacent battery cell. Thermally conductive compression bars are placed over the paired tabs to maintain electrical contact between the tabs. The compression bars also transfer heat to a cooling plate on top of the cell stack. Each carrier assembly incorporates a heat spreader sheet on a surface of the battery cell, a compressible foam sheet in front of the heat spreader sheet, and a thermally isolating sheet in front of the foam sheet.Type: GrantFiled: February 18, 2016Date of Patent: September 8, 2020Assignee: Sterling PBES Energy Solution Ltd.Inventors: Johannes Christian Kruger, Brent Anthony Perry

Patent number: 9851787Abstract: A system and related methods for a resource management in a head-mounted display device are provided. In one example, the head-mounted display device includes a plurality of sensors and a display system for presenting holographic objects. A resource management program is configured to operate a selected sensor in a default power mode to achieve a selected fidelity. The program receives user-related information from one or more of the sensors, and determines whether target information is detected. Where target information is detected, the program adjusts the selected sensor to operate in a reduced power mode that uses less power than the default power mode.Type: GrantFiled: November 29, 2012Date of Patent: December 26, 2017Assignee: MICROSOFT TECHNOLOGY LICENSING, LLCInventors: Stephen Latta, Jedd Anthony Perry, Rod G. Publication number: 20140349154Abstract: The present disclosure is directed at a cell carrier, a stack that includes multiple cell carriers, and a method for assembling the stack. The cell carrier has a rigid backing and bus bar supports that are rigidly mounted to the rigid backing. The bus bar supports have sockets positioned to receive fasteners for securing bus bars to the bus bar supports. A battery cell that has electrodes in the form of pliable tabs can be secured to the cell carrier by, for example, adhering the cell body to the rigid backing. The cell tabs are secured between the bus bars and the bus bar supports when bus bars are fastened to the bus bar supports, and the rigidly mounted supports help prevent relative motion between the cell body and tabs. This helps prevent the cell tabs from ripping or tearing when the battery cell is subjected to vibrations during use.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 12, 2014Publication date: November 27, 2014Inventors: Hoang Phu NGUYEN, Johannes Christian KRUGER, Brent Anthony PERRY, Colm MURPHY

Publication number: 20060130163Abstract: The invention provides a method for generating transgenic animals and cells by the coinsertion of nucleic acid and a nucleus into an unfertilized oocyte. Preferably, the coinsertion is by microinjection and more preferably by piezo-electrically actuated microinjection. Transgene (tg) expressing embryos are here produced following coinjection of unfertilized mouse oocytes with sperm heads and exogenous DNA encoding either a green fluorescent protein (GFP) or ?-galactosidase reporter. The microinjected oocyte may be allowed to develop into differentiated cells or stem cells; into an embryo in vitro prior to transfer into a host surrogate mother, or it may be transferred directly into a host surrogate mother. Embryonic development can occur to term, such that the offspring possess transgenic modifications that may alter their characteristics (phenotype) and are, in turn, transmitted to their offspring.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 2, 2005Publication date: June 15, 2006Inventor: Anthony Perry

Publication number: 20050285055Abstract: A method of modulating an infrared radiation (IR) source that includes applying a time-varying, periodic voltage signal to the IR source, measuring a parameter of the voltage signal, and adjusting the voltage signal to maintain a substantially constant delivered power to the IR source. Adjusting the voltage signal is done based on the measured parameter and a predetermined relationship between the measured parameter of the voltage pulse and a resistance of such an infrared radiation source. Alternatively, the method includes applying a the voltage pulse, measuring a first parameter of the voltage pulse and a second parameter of a current passing through the infrared radiation source resulting from the applying step, and adjusting the voltage pulse to maintain a substantially constant delivered power to the infrared radiation source based on the first parameter and the second parameter.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 10, 2005Publication date: December 29, 2005Applicant: RIC Investments, LLC.Inventors: John DelFavero, Anthony Perry
