    Abstract: Some implementations include an apparatus configured for use in a wellbore drilled through one or more subsurface formations. The apparatus may comprise one or more pressure intensifier modules configured to increase an applied force of a downhole power unit (DPU) in setting a downhole tool in the wellbore, each pressure intensifier module including a movable input device configured to provide an input force from the DPU and a pressure intensifier piston having a first portion of a first contact area and a second portion of a second, smaller contact area, wherein the pressure intensifier piston is coupled to the movable input device by a force-dependent coupling device. The apparatus may also include a setting piston configured to provide a setting force to one or more components of the downhole tool, wherein the setting force is generated, at least in part, by the pressure intensifier piston.

    Abstract: A sol-gel material for overcoating a surface-relief structure includes a titanium(IV) precursor, and a titanium oxide stabilizer including R3OC(O)OR4, R5C(O)OR6, or a combination. R3 and R4 include alkyl or alkene groups optionally containing carboxylate, alcohol, or ester functionalities, such as propylene carbonate (PC). R5 and R6 include alkyl or alkene groups optionally containing carboxylate, alcohol, or ester functionalities, for example, a lactone such as gamma butyrolactone (GBL). In some embodiments, the sol-gel material includes a source of sulfate or phosphate anions, an acid, a base, a peroxide, a surfactant, a cross-linker, a flexibilizer, a toughener additive, a solvent, or a combination thereof. In some embodiments, the sol-gel material is annealed at a temperature between 50-150° C., and then annealed at a temperature between 200-300° C. In some embodiments, the sol-gel material is cured using ultraviolet light before annealing at a temperature between 200-300° C.

The sol-gel material, upon selective photo-excitation (which forms a latent pattern with latent chemistry in the sol-gel material) and blanket thermal annealing, can form a coating having a formula SnO(n)X(m), where the n:m ratio and n-m values of the coating vary across regions of the coating, such that a refractive index of the coating varies across regions of the coating, without affecting the coating's transparency for visible light.

    Abstract: Techniques disclosed herein relate to sol-gel materials that include at least one metal halide precursor and at least one alcohol. After being annealed, the metal in the metal halide is in at least two different oxidation states, both of which are stable and transparent to visible light. By producing a mixture of the same metal in multiple oxidation states that are all transparent to visible light, an amorphous state of the sol-gel material without any noticeable domain formation that would otherwise distribute stress locally and lead to voiding inside nano-gratings to be overcoated is obtained. Highly condensed states of the sol-gel have refractive index values in the 1.7-2.2 range, without sacrificing recessed-feature fill.

The elastic barrier sleeve extends circumferentially about the splayable assembly such that movement of the lower annulus towards the upper annulus expands the elastic barrier sleeve to form a barrier within a wellbore.
