    Abstract: A sheet and web cleaner comprises a pair of substantially identical units in facing relation, providing a path for transporting a sheet or web between them. Each unit includes a suction hood with a rectangular inlet slot, and a pair of channels adjacent and parallel to the slot, each containing a pressurized air ionizing bar which discharges ionized air at high velocity onto the moving sheet or web. A plate of hard smooth plastic is over the channels and the inlet slot and has in one side a central elongate inlet opening of tapering width which extends partly through the thickness of the plate and overlies the rectangular inlet slot. Elongate air discharge openings extending partly through the thickness of the plate and overlying each of the channels are adjacent the inlet opening.

    Abstract: An air ionizing apparatus, specifically an elongated static bar, is provided with an indicating light capable of being energized by extremely low amperage, such as a neon light. The static bar is connected to a source of alternating current, preferably a flux limiting transformer. Upon shorting out of the ionizing points of the static bar, current flow through the conductor of the static bar is reduced below the minimum operating energy of the neon light, which is then not energized, indicating that the static bar is not functioning.

    Abstract: An apparatus for removing gaseous hydrocarbon fraction from a heated gas comprises a cooled air inlet to condense the hydrocarbon to viscous liquid particles. An electrostatic field established between a points array and a plate propels the particles to a moving non-conductive collector belt, from which the liquid condensate is removed by a doctor blade and deposited into a heated receiver trough. The liquid condensate is discharged from the receiver trough into a container. A method comprises passing a heated gaseous, liquid droplet-containing stream through an electrostatic field which propels the droplets to a liquid collector, and removing the liquid from the collector, and discharging the liquid into a container for disposal.

    Abstract: Apparatus for generating a stream of high temperature gaseous material comprises a pressure container having an inlet for air under pressure and a restricted outlet orifice. An electrode is within the container, insulated from it, and connected to a source of direct current; it has a discharge point adjacent and aligned with the outlet orifice. The wall of the orifice is conductive and connected to ground. The space between the electrode and the container may converge towards the outlet. A method in which air is compressed within a container having a restricted orifice, at least the portion of the air within the container which is adjacent the orifice is ionized, the excited electrons and ions discharging rapidly from the container through the orifice water or fuel may be introduced into the discharging material, for generation of steam or for combustion, respectively.

    Abstract: Apparatus for cleaning a sheet or web while it is being fed. Upper and lower ionized air cleaner units are provided, having spaced, parallel plates providing a throat between which the sheet or web is passed. The throat entry includes diverging flanges, as does the throat exit. Each unit includes first and second spaced rows of ionized air blower holes extending transversely of the sheet or web; between these rows is an air suction slot. The ionized air generator includes a pair of spaced channel, each having its open side closed by a plate having the blower holes therein. An ionized air generator with air boost extends axially within each channel, and has ionizing points extending into the blower holes in the plate. The suction slot is provided between the two channels.A linearly extending hood overlies the suction slot, having at an end thereof a suction outlet.

A grounded conductive ring surrounds the ionizing point.

    Abstract: A cleaner for circuit boards includes two elongate hollow housings positioned one above the other to provide a slot between two facing walls. Each wall has an aperture therein spaced from its ends, and brushes extending into the slot from the walls, both in advance of and behind the apertures, to restrict air flow to the apertures to entry at the ends of the slot. Ion emitters are carried by each wall, between two brushes in advance of the apertures. Motor driven fans are in the housings to draw air across the printed circuit board and into the apertures. The housings also contain a power supply for the ion emitters and a motor to drive pinch rollers.

    Abstract: A miniature flexible air ionizer comprises a first pair of insulating strips having a series of conductive emitters between them, and a second pair of insulating strips having a linear conductor between them and a second linear conductor on that surface of a strip of the second pair which is most remote from the emitter. The emitters and conductors are provided by laminating copper on plastic strips and chemically etching. The emitters are comb-shaped, with teeth having flat ends which are exposed to air and do not extend beyond the strips. An end connector provides mechanical and electrical connections to the ionizer.

    Abstract: A static neutralizer which emits ions without emitting light to the environment. The static neutralizer includes a body of insulating light absorbing material, having a cavity therein, with points of ion emitters located in the cavity. A passage leads from the cavity to the exterior, permitting flow of ions from the body and preventing passage of light from the ionizing points to the exterior. A metal sleeve surrounds the insulating material body with a peripheral edge of the metal band and the ionizing points preferably lying in a common plane. A source of electric potential, preferably alternating, is connected to the ion emitters, and the metal sleeve is connected to ground. Preferably, the connections are provided by a shielded cable having an inner conductor connected to the ion emitters, an outer, flexible woven wire shield connected to the metal band, and a light impervious, insulating layer on the exterior of the woven shield.
