  • Patent number: 5881605
Abstract: A parking brake actuator for applying and releasing a cable-operated vehicle parking brake includes an operating lever pivotally mounted on a mounting bracket for movement between brake-released and a plurality of brake-applied positions. The operating lever is a unitary molding made of a glass-filled thermoplastic and has an integral footpad. A metal insert which mounts the cable end, includes a sector gear, that is secured to the operating lever by rivets and engages a pinion which is pivoted to the mounting bracket. The operating lever has a raised drive lug that is received in a mating drive aperture in the insert and transfers brake-apply forces from the operating lever to the sector. A one-way clutch normally permits the pinion to rotate freely when the operating lever is operated to apply the parking brake, but prevents reverse rotation of the pinion to maintain the parking brake applied.

  • Patent number: 5309783
Abstract: An automatic transmission shifter for a vehicle comprises a unitary glass reinforced nylon housing open at the bottom and having interconnected, spaced upper, side and end walls. A slot is formed in the upper wall, a pair of spaced aligned apertured bosses are formed in the side walls, and integral flanges extend from the side and end walls and incorporate a plurality of spaced apertures for mounting the housing to vehicle structure. A pair of spaced, aligned position control plates, each comprising a plurality of notches, are formed interiorly on the side walls, a plurality of detent notches are formed interiorly on the housing on one of the side walls below the position control plates, and a shift cable access opening is formed in one of the end walls. A shift lever assembly including an operating lever extends upwardly through the slot.

  • Patent number: 5287743
Abstract: A manual transmission shifter for operating a pair of transmission control cables includes a shift lever, a base, and a cross having first and second axles defining the first and second intersecting orthogonal axes. The first axle ends are pivotally mounted on the base for pivotal movement. A shift lever bracket mounts the shift lever and has a pair of spaced legs which are pivotally mounted on the second axle ends to enable relative pivotal movement of the shift lever about the second axis. A cable control member is attached at its lower end to one of the control cables and has a pair of spaced flanges at its upper end which are pivotally attached to the second axle outwardly of the shift lever bracket legs to enable pivotal movement of the cable control member about the second axis independent of pivotal movement of the shift lever. A bellcrank is pivotally mounted on the base on a third axis that is coplanar with the orthogonal axes.

  • Patent number: 5054333
Abstract: A cable-operated park brake actuator for a vehicle park brake is shiftable between engaged and disengaged positions; it includes an operating cable for shifting the park brake between positions, and a cable acutating pedal lever located in the vehicle operator compartment for operating the cable to shift the park brake from disengaged to engaged position upon pedal lever movement from deactuated to actuated position. The park brake actuator is provided with means for positioning the pedal lever in deactuated position, characterized by a stop member located adjacent the pedal lever for engagement thereby in deactuated position. The stop member is mounted for movement between a shipping position, enabling movement of the pedal lever from an operational condition to a non-operational condition to create slack in the cable, and an operating position for engagement by the pedal lever in deactuated position. A spring biases the stop member to its operating position.

  • Patent number: 4512210
Abstract: The present invention relates to a lever assembly which is coupled by a cable to operate a remote mechanism, such as a vehicle parking brake. The lever assembly comprises a lever pivotally mounted to a support member. A locking pawl pivotally mounted to the lever is adapted to engage one of a plurality of ratchet teeth on the support member for maintaining the lever in a selected pivoted position relative to the support member. The one end of the cable is coupled to the handle such that pivoting of the lever results in movement of the cable and operation of the remote mechanism. In accordance with the present invention, an adjusting device is provided for maintaining the cable within a predetermined tension range when the lever is in the non-operating position.

  • Patent number: 4403524
Abstract: The present invention relates to a hand-actuated lever assembly for mechanical linkage to and operation of a vehicle headlamp door mechanism. The lever assembly comprises a handle and a lever mechanism which are pivotally mounted to an anchored support plate, but are otherwise structurally independent from one another. The handle is adapted to engage a stop member on the lever mechanism for pivoting the handle and the lever mechanism to an operating position. The lever mechanism is mechanically coupled to the headlamp door mechanism such that operation of the handle results in pivoting of the lever mechanism and operation of the door mechanism. The lever mechanism is provided with a releasable lock for maintaining the lever mechanism in the operating position.
