Publication number: 20230323723Abstract: An automatic door can include a plurality of millimeter wave (mmW) sensors that are each configured to sense a door area. Each mmW sensor includes a mmW radar configured to capture mmW radar data and an inertial measurement unit (IMU) configured to measure an orientation of the mmW radar. Based on IMU data from the mmW sensors, the mmW radar data from the sensors can be combined so that the door areas can form a combined door area. Multiple targets can be detected and tracked through the combined door area at high resolutions and in a variety of environmental conditions. Control of the automatic door can be enhanced in a variety of ways by classifying the targets and predicting their movements in the combined door area. Further, the classification and prediction of targets can facilitate safe and reliable operation by filtering operation based on certain targets and/or motions.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 8, 2022Publication date: October 12, 2023Inventors: Jorge I. Guevara Rosas, Jonathan M. Braverman, Anthony R. Ranaudo, Pedro I. Inigo Santiago, Ethan Traineanu, Kyle N Carissimi, Christopher Conroy

Patent number: 6751909Abstract: The present invention discloses an automatic door systems related to a fail safe method of controlling an automatic door operating system. One aspect of the present invention provides a method for controlling an electric motor of an automatic door system, the motor being operatively connected to a door panel to enable the motor to perform a door moving operation wherein the motor moves the door panel between the open and closed positions thereof using an electric power signal delivered to the motor from an electric power supply. Another aspect of the present invention provides a machine readable medium encoded with a plurality of machine executable instruction sequences for performing a method for controlling an electric motor of an automatic door system. Another aspect of the invention provides a control system for an automatic door system, the automatic door system including a door panel mounted for movement during a door moving operation between open and closed positions.Type: GrantFiled: February 1, 2002Date of Patent: June 22, 2004Assignee: The Stanley WorksInventor: Anthony R. Patent number: 5982125Abstract: A test device for testing automatic door systems has a test circuit including a display, a micro-controller, a memory for storing data and a test program, and a control switch for controlling operation of the test program by the micro-controller. The test device is installed by interposing the test circuit between the controller and sensors of the automatic door system. A selector switch on the test device is moveable between first and second positions. When the selector switch is in the first position, it completes a data path between the test circuit and the controller and blocks the exchange of data between the sensors and the test circuit and the first connector. When the selector switch is in the second position, it completes a data path between the test circuit and the second connector and blocks the exchange of data between the controller and the test circuit and the second connector.Type: GrantFiled: November 4, 1998Date of Patent: November 9, 1999Assignee: The Stanley WorksInventors: Anthony R. Ranaudo, Sanjay Kamani, Dwight Reed

Patent number: 5581944Abstract: A sliding door system employs an electric power link. The electric link includes a ribbon conductor which is enclosed in a protective chain-like guard to provide electrical communication between the sliding door and the door header. Electrical modules such as electromagnetic locks, switches and sensors are mounted directly on the sliding door. Safety sensors are mounted at the leading and trailing edges of the sliding door panels to sense whether an obstacle or traffic has cleared.Type: GrantFiled: July 8, 1993Date of Patent: December 10, 1996Assignee: The Stanley WorksInventors: Henning N. Kornbrekke, Anthony R. Ranaudo, Alexander M. Mitchell, Gary V. Roberts

Patent number: 4823010Abstract: A threshold safety sensor for a sliding door system employs infrared transmitters and a photo diode for detecting traffic at or near the threshold of a sliding door system. The transmitters are pulsed in a time spaced sequence. An input signal derived from the operate initiating signal of the automatic door operator is employed for enabling a latch. The latch sets a relay to a state for maintaining the doors in an open position when traffic is detected in the sensor detection zone.Type: GrantFiled: May 11, 1987Date of Patent: April 18, 1989Assignee: The Stanley WorksInventors: Henning N. Kornbrekke, Anthony R. Ranaudo

Patent number: 4565029Abstract: An automatic door installation with four traffic sensors mounted on the door jambs on opposite sides of the doorway opening and having radiant energy emitters and reflected energy receivers for sensing doorway traffic. Two sensors are employed to cover the exit or swing side of the doorway, a threshold sensor is employed to cover the threshold area and an entrance sensor is employed to cover the entrance side of the doorway. The entrance and two exit sensors each have a plurality of radiant energy emitters with angularly spaced beam axes to provide broad coverage areas intersecting the traffic path of travel. The emitters of the exit and threshold sensors are selectively deactivated as the door is swung between its open and closed positions to avoid sensing the door. The emitters of all four sensors are pulsed in a predetermined sequence and the sensor receivers are timely activated to receive reflected radiant energy from the respective emitter(s) only.Type: GrantFiled: November 28, 1983Date of Patent: January 21, 1986Assignee: The Stanley WorksInventors: Henning N. Kornbrekke, David M. Cirkot, Anthony R. Ranaudo
