  • Publication number: 20180375258
Abstract: A self-aligning connector has a shroud with a beveled or chamfered surface for engaging an adaptor for establishing a coaxial electric connection between cables or appliances. The shroud is part of a backplane connector for receiving rack mounted appliances, and the shrouds are grouped to correspond to connectors of 4, 8 or 16 coaxial connections. Each shroud mates with a corresponding adaptor for closing the coaxial connection. A pin in the center of each shroud engages a receptacle defined by a socket on the mating adaptor. The chamfered surface has a centering taper that guides the socket into alignment with the pin during insertion, and the chamfer centers the socket at an insertion depth greater than the depth for engaging the pin such that the socket is centered before the point of insertion travel where the receptacle engages the pin.

  • Patent number: 5267877
Abstract: A connector for a helically corrugated conduit and includes a coupling mechanism defining a cavity for receiving an end of a conduit having external corrugations, and a stop surface disposed within the cavity; a hollow fastener threadedly engaged with the connector mechanism and defining an engagement surface; and a collar disposed in the cavity and having internal grooves adapted to engage the external corrugations on the conduit, the collar having an inner end surface for engaging the stop surface and an outer end surface for engaging the engagement surface, and wherein circumferentially spaced apart portions of the collar are split by longitudinally extending slot means. Forcible engagement between the connector mechanism and fastener produces circumferential contraction of the collar along the slot and radially against the outer surface of the conduit.

  • Patent number: 5242316
Abstract: A coaxial connector including an outer conductor having a hollow cylindrical body portion and a plurality of substantially parallel, circumferentially spaced apart spring fingers extending longitudinally from the body portion, each of the fingers having a free end terminating with a radially outwardly projecting latch portion; an inner conductor disposed coaxially within the outer conductor; a cylindrical insulator member disposed between the inner and outer conductors; a hollow cylindrical and electrically conductive bushing surrounding the fingers and at least a section of the body portion, the bushing having an inner surface defining an annular recess receiving the latch portions; and an annular coiled, electrically conductive spring engaged between the body portion and the bushing. The spring fingers facilitate rapid interconnection of the outer conductor and the bushing while the spring provides RFI suppression.

  • Patent number: 4963105
Abstract: An electrical connector assembly including a male plug having a male inner conductor and a cylindrical male outer conductor surrounding the inner conductor and having an annular outer surface portion; a female plug having a female inner conductor and a cylindrical female outer conductor surrounding the female inner conductor and having an annular inner surface portion surrounding the outer surface portion, and an annular electrically conductive coil spring extending around the outer surface portion and engaged between the inner and outer surface portions and wherein the spring is adapted to exert therebetween forces that cause axial loading between the male and female outer conductors. In addition to locking the male plug to the female plug, the electrically conductive coil spring enhances the electrical connection between the outer conductors and improves radio frequency interference suppression.
