Patent number: 11035437Abstract: A shackle clamp assembly has one end configured as a cap for insertion on the end of a shackle bolt attached to a U-shaped shackle and second end configured as a loop for attachment around the U-shaped shackle. The cap has an aperture that aligns with a through-bore in the end of the shackle bolt. A pin is inserted through the aperture of the cap and the through-bore of the shackle bolt to retain the cap on the end of the shackle bolt. The cap abuts the nut threaded on the end of the shackle bolt to ensure that the nut does not become disconnected from the shackle bolt.Type: GrantFiled: November 21, 2019Date of Patent: June 15, 2021Inventor: Anthony Ray Boyd

Patent number: 10214979Abstract: A swivel pressure head includes a fixation mechanism detachably securing an upper housing to a lower housing. The upper housing includes an internal bore extending from a fluid inlet to an opening on a bottom surface of the upper housing. The lower housing includes a central bore. A pressure sleeve is disposed within the internal bore of the upper housing and within the central bore of the lower housing. A locking nut operatively engages the pressure sleeve and is configured to engage a swivel stem so that rotation of the swivel stem rotates the pressure sleeve. A packing assembly positioned in the internal bore of the upper housing fluidly seals between a wall of the internal bore and an outer surface of the pressure sleeve to direct a fluid flow from the internal bore of the upper housing through a fluid inlet and an internal bore of the pressure sleeve.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 2016Date of Patent: February 26, 2019Inventor: Anthony Ray Boyd

Patent number: 8171991Abstract: Apparatus for rotationally locking the swivel of a drillstring during downhole backoff, directional drilling, and similar operations, and for continuous monitoring of the torque level in the drillstring. A first member has a collar which attaches to one side of the swivel, the collar having a main plate attached thereto and extending outwardly from the swivel. A second member is suspended from the plate, and has a set of jaws which can be closed to grip the swivel and thereby rotationally lock the swivel. A means for measuring forces between the first and second members is disposed between the first and second members, and in combination with appropriate processing and controls permits monitoring of torque on the drillstring while the drillstring is raised and lowered as desired.Type: GrantFiled: July 28, 2009Date of Patent: May 8, 2012Inventor: Anthony Ray Boyd

Patent number: 6994628Abstract: A locking swivel apparatus is provided. The locking swivel includes an upper body portion having a counter bore about a cylindrical axis and a mandrel receivable in the counter bore. The apparatus further includes a locking arrangement, including at least one replaceable gear member, disposed to engage with the upper body portion and the mandrel. The locking arrangement is further disposed to selectively couple and decouple the upper body portion and the mandrel, such selective coupling and decoupling disposed to correspondingly constrain and allow relative rotation of the upper body portion and the mandrel about the cylindrical axis. Embodiments of the locking swivel include two replaceable gears disposed to selectively engage and disengage one another.Type: GrantFiled: January 28, 2003Date of Patent: February 7, 2006Assignee: Boyd's Bit Service, Inc.Inventor: Anthony Ray Boyd

Patent number: 6915865Abstract: A locking swivel apparatus is provided. The locking swivel includes an upper body portion having a counter bore about a cylindrical axis, a mandrel receivable in the counter bore, and a lower cap member threadably engaged with the upper body portion. The apparatus further includes an internal locking arrangement configured to selectively couple and decouple the upper body portion and the mandrel. The selective coupling and decoupling is disposed to correspondingly constrain and allow relative rotation of the upper body portion and the mandrel about the cylindrical axis. The apparatus still further includes a supplemental internal locking mechanism configured, upon engagement, to selectively constrain the upper body portion and the mandrel from reciprocating along the cylindrical axis. The engagement of the supplemental locking mechanism is operable to secure the upper body portion and the mandrel in a coupled position.Type: GrantFiled: January 28, 2003Date of Patent: July 12, 2005Assignee: Boyd's Bit Service, Inc.Inventor: Anthony Ray Boyd

Patent number: 6357524Abstract: A system for powering components on an oil drilling or production platform utilizing a relatively inert fuel, the system including a first plurality of tanks which contain carbon dioxide in the liquid phase; a second plurality of tanks for receiving the carbon dioxide under pressure in the liquid phase and flowing the carbon dioxide into the second plurality of tanks into a high pressure gaseous phase. There is further included a third low pressure tank which would receive the high pressure carbon dioxide from the second plurality of tanks into the tank under a substantially low pressure within the third tank. The third tank would be equipped with a means for flowing the carbon dioxide into a component such as a pump or engine so that the carbon dioxide serves as a fuel for driving the component and allowing the component to undertake a particular task on the rig floor such as the testing of lubricators grease units or an engine for driving certain functions of the rig.Type: GrantFiled: March 18, 1999Date of Patent: March 19, 2002Inventor: Anthony Ray Boyd
