  • Patent number: 7505722
Abstract: This is a pre-heater system especially useful in an electrostatic marking apparatus. It is used to heat the toner and paper (media) prior to the paper entering the conventional fuser station. Using this pre-heater increases fusing productivity (ppm), widens media latitude and/or extends fuser member life for a given fuser system. It also dramatically improves uniform heat transfer and paper handling problems encountered in prior art preheat fusing assemblies. The preheater is used together with the conventional fuser stations used today in electrostatic marking systems.

  • Patent number: 7283777
Abstract: Disclosed herein are several embodiments to facilitate the characterization of fuser stripping performance. Recognizing that the characteristics of a substrate exiting a fusing nip are indicative of the operation of the nip and the stripping operation itself, several contact and non-contact sensing methods are described to detect or predict degraded stripping performance, thereby permitting one or more compensation techniques to be employed, or to identify the need for fuser subsystem replacement.

  • Patent number: 7245844
Abstract: A printing system includes first and second marking engines. First and second fusers are associated with the marking engines, respectively. The printing system has a first mode of operation in which print media is fused by both fusers and a second mode of operation in which at least a portion of the print media is fused by the second fuser, which portion has not been previously fused by the first fuser. The second fuser has first and second fuser operating modes when the printing system is in the first and second modes of operation, respectively. The second fuser applies a first energy input to the print media in the first fuser operating mode and a second energy input, different from the first energy input, to the print media in the second fuser operating mode.

  • Patent number: 7139496
Abstract: A fuser system and method for a xerographic device having improved self-stripping capabilities for a wide latitude of substrate media. The fuser system includes a fuser member and a pressure member in which the pressure member is made to exert a predetermined pressure upon the fuser member. In applying this pressure load, a nip is formed having a nip width between the fuser member and the pressure member. A predetermined creep exists during normal fusing of a substrate. A load adjustment device is provided to momentarily increase the exerted pressure as a leading edge or other portion of the substrate passes through, and/or in the vicinity of, the nip, thereby increasing the creep magnitude momentarily and improving self-stripping capabilities.

  • Patent number: 6795677
Abstract: A high speed heat and pressure belt fuser apparatus or structure for fixing toner images including an endless belt and a pair of pressure members between which the endless belt is sandwiched for forming a fusing nip through which substrates carrying toner images pass with the toner images contacting an outer surface of the endless belt. Efficient uniform heat transfer to a fusing belt, especially belts with macro non-uniformities and/or a rough surface, for enabling better toner fusing uniformity, preventing localized cold offset and extending belt life is effected by the addition of a spring loaded mechanism inside a belt module within the region of contact with the External Heat Roll (EHR). Such an arrangement produces superior contact and therefore better heat transfer to the belt. A positive and consistent heating contact is essential for uniform and high image gloss.

  • Patent number: 6757514

Thus, one of the pressure rolls is supported internally of the endless belt while the other pressure roll is supported externally of the belt. The belt has at least one conformable or deformable layer which cooperates with a deformable or conformable layer on at least one of the pressure members to provide a large nip that yields high gloss images, long belt life, minimal edge wear and reliable stripping at high speeds. Effective substrate stripping is accomplished by wrapping a portion of the belt about the external roll in a post-nip area.
