    Abstract: This invention relates to a polymer composition comprising (A) from about 55% to about 75% by weight of at least one polyolefin, (B) from about 2% to about 12% by weight of at least one reaction product of an alpha, beta unsaturated carboxylic reagent and a polyolefin, and (C) from 15% to about 35% by weight of filler. In one aspect, the polymer compositions also include (D) at least one copolymer of ethylene and an olefin, (E) at least one polyamide, or (F) a mixture of (D) and (E). These compositions provide articles and films with improved scratch resistance and hardness. These compositions have improved processing character because their low coefficient of friction.

    Abstract: The present invention provides an adhesive composition for use in bonding a polymeric fitting to an olefin-containing component of an article used in medical applications. The adhesive composition according to the invention includes an adhesive polymer system dissolved in a solvent system. The solvent system includes an organic solvent having a solubility parameter within the range of from about 7.5 to about 10 (cal/cm3)1/2. Subsequent to forming a bond between the polymeric fitting and the olefin-containing component, the adhesive composition can meet the requirements for USP Class VI materials. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the adhesive composition includes a low shear mixture of an adhesive polymer system including an atactic polypropylene and a low density polyethylene that is dissolved in a solvent system including a blend of d-limonene and a ketone selected from the group consisting of 4-heptanone and cyclohexanone.

The solvent system preferably includes a terpene and an aldehyde, ketone, or an aromatic solvent. The adhesive polymer system preferably includes one or a blend of polymers that dissolve, at least in part, in the solvent solution. The components of the solvent adhesive are compatible in that they do not separate upon standing. The solvent based adhesive composition provides good adhesion between polymer articles such as, for example, polyolefin and acrylic films, as well as good adhesion between polymeric articles and wood or metal substrates.

    Abstract: The powder coating composition of the present invention includes a low-temperature mixture of a powder (A) and a powder (B), in which at least the powder (A) includes an unsaturated polyester resin and a free radical initiator for initiating polymerization of unsaturated polyester resins in the powder coating composition and the powder (B) includes a polymerization promoter and methods for making the composition. The powder (B) may further include an unsaturated polyester. The powders (A) and (B) are physically mixed at temperatures below which the polymerization promoter would cause the free radical initiator to initiate polymerization of the powder coating composition. Subsequently, the physically mixed powder coating composition is applied to a substrate and cured, during which the polymerization promoter causes the free radical initiator to initiate the curing reaction.

The color concentrate comprises a multitude of fine particles which each comprise a vinyl halide polymer resin core and a colorant material shell. The method includes the steps of providing a vinyl halide polymer, providing a colorant material, providing a compatibilizer having a solubility parameter of from about 7 to about 12 (cal/ml).sup.1/2, and mixing the vinyl halide polymer, compatibilizer and colorant material together to yield the dustless concentrate in the form of a vinyl halide resin core surrounded by a shell of the compatibilzer and the colorant material.

    Abstract: This invention relates to a multilayer thermoformable structure comprising (A) at least one cap layer and (B) at least one core layer, and polymer compositions for making the same. The multilayer structures and polymer compositions of the invention are useful in preparing thermoformed articles and are particularly useful in preparing liners for refrigerators and freezers. The multilayer structures and the polymer composition have good thermoformability and chemical resistance. The multilayer structures and the polymer composition have good surface properties including a glossy finish. Further these materials are compatible with new blowing agents, such as the hydrochlorofluorocarbons and hydrofluorocarbon blowing agents, which are more environmentally friendly. The layers of the multilayer structure do not require a glue layer.
