  • Publication number: 20110211165
Abstract: A laser projection system is provided comprising a light source, a phase retarding element, and a beam scanning element. The light source comprises at least one frequency-converted laser source comprising a wavelength-tunable laser diode and a wavelength conversion device. The phase retarding element is configured to resolve the polarization of a frequency-converted laser beam into two orthogonal linearly polarized components such that one component of polarization is phase delayed relative to the other. Frequency-converted laser beam polarization in the 2D image frame is a function of the degree to which the respective components of polarization are delayed relative to each other and varies with wavelength variations in the output of the wavelength-tunable laser diode. Polarization variations of the frequency-converted laser beam in the 2D image frame are sufficient to scramble image speckle patterns across the 2D image frame.

  • Publication number: 20090252187
Abstract: The present invention relates generally to semiconductor lasers and laser projection systems. According to one embodiment of the present invention, a projected laser image is generated utilizing an output beam of the semiconductor laser. A gain current control signal is generated by a laser feedback loop to control the gain section of the semiconductor laser. Wavelength fluctuations of the semiconductor laser are narrowed by incorporating a wavelength recovery operation in a drive current of the semiconductor laser and by initiating the wavelength recovery operations as a function of the gain current control signal or an optical intensity error signal. Additional embodiments are disclosed and claimed.

  • Patent number: 7489437
Abstract: An RGB light source that uses an optical fiber laser to generate a near-infrared (NIR) output light beam, and a wavelength conversion system that receives the output NIR light beam and forms therefrom red, green and blue light beams. The fiber laser includes multiple stages, wherein the first stage includes a solid-state laser to generate an initial NIR light beam. One or more subsequent stages operate to amplify the NIR light beam to form a relatively high-average-power output NIR light beam. Only light from the fiber laser is used to generate the red, green and blue-wavelength output light beams. The wavelength conversion system includes three or fewer non-linear optical (NLO) units. A color display that utilizes the RGB light source is also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20040128713
Abstract: A soybean enzyme, myo-inositol 1-phosphate synthase, whose manipulation results in the alteration of raffinose saccharide, sucrose, phytic acid and inorganic phosphate content of soybean seeds, thus leading to valuable and useful soybean products, has been identifed. Soybean lines with decreased capacity for the synthesis of myo-inositol 1-phosphate in the tissue of developing seeds in comparison to seeds of other soybean lines, have been developed. As taught herein, reduction of myo-inositol 1-phosphate synthase enzymatic activity by any of several means will result in soybean seeds displaying this desirable phenotype.

  • Patent number: 5746023
Abstract: A novel method of identifying genetic markers linked to alleles conferring yield potential of a crop species has been developed. By conducting genetic marker analysis of a set of current elite lines and the ancestral population from which they were derived by decades of plant breeding, one can determine and compare the expected and observed allele frequencies within elite populations at numerous polymorphic loci. Since the traditional plant breeding effort has consistently utilized yield as a selection criteria, deviations from expected allele frequency at certain loci have been used to identify alleles that confer yield potential. Agronomically superior progeny can, therefore, be selected utilizing genetic markers.
