  • Patent number: 4730659
Abstract: Horizontal casting apparatus which includes a composite sleeve or ring at the entrance to the mould comprising a graphite inner portion and an insulating outer portion. The apparatus can optionally have an inert gas shield around the composite ring to protect the graphite component thereof against oxidation.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 30, 1987
Date of Patent: March 15, 1988
    Assignee: IMI Refiners Ltd.
Inventors: Peter J. Clark, Anthony W. Hudd, Stephen T. Bloor, Erling Roller

  • Patent number: 4252178
Abstract: A continuous casting slab mould including a cooled copper body containing an aperture lined with graphite liners in which the graphite liners are held against the copper body by means of springs interengaging the liner and the body.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 4230006
Abstract: A clamp for clamping three strands of continuously cast metal, the three strands lying in a common plane, there being a pair of outer, hydraulic rams adapted to squeeze the strands together, a fixed clamping member between one pair of the strands and a pivotable clamping member between the other pair so that the ram can compress the three strands towards one another for clamping purposes, particularly useful for clamping three continuously cast strands prior to cutting them with a flying saw.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 17, 1979
Date of Patent: October 28, 1980
    Assignee: IMI Refiners Limited

  • Patent number: 4214625
Abstract: The invention is concerned with support rolls for continuous casting machines and such continuous casting machines. In a continuous casting machine the strands being cast are each supported by individual pinch rolls. The invention provides a pinch roll assembly capable of supporting more than one strand simultaneously, the pinch roll being mounted on a drive shaft by means of a spherical bearing so that the roll can articulate on the shaft. A compression spring arrangement is provided so that articulation can occur only when a lateral force greater than a predetermined value is applied to the roller. The invention also provides continuous casting apparatus incorporating such pinch rolls.
