  • Patent number: 4734064
Abstract: An electrical socket contact for receiving a pin contact, the socket comprising a forward end comprised of at least two elongated cantilever spring tines for receiving the pin, each spring tine extending from a concave cross-section adjacent to the body from which it extends and transitioning into a convex cross-section adjacent to its free end, the free ends being tulip-shaped to form an entry for guiding the pin contact into engagement by the convex portions. Apparatus for manufacturing the contact includes a center die having shaped grooves, arcuate segments which close together about the die and have shaped ribs which are received in a respective groove, and an entrance die having a hemispherical protrusion which is inserted into an opening defined by the closed segments.

  • Patent number: 4639064
Abstract: A spring member comprises a set of flat arcuate ring segments each having a flange portion extending perpendicularly from its opposite ends. The segments are assembled about a plug shoulder to resist rotation of a coupling nut thereabout only when each of a pair of connector shells are nearly mated, the segments being driven rearwardly by the receptacle and providing a substantially continuous 360.degree. metal-to-metal EMI shield between the forward end face of the receptacle and the plug shoulder when the shells are fully mated. The flange portions are driven into detents disposed in the coupling nut flange and resist rotation only near full mate.

  • Patent number: 4521064
Abstract: A flat, annular-shaped, seal member (50) comprised of a closed-cell elastomeric foam material is bonded to a radial collar (46) of a tubular adapter (43) mounted to an end portion (24) of a plug shell (20) carrying a slidable sleeve (40) and fixed retainer housing (34) coaxially therearound, an annular air space (S) between end portion (24) and sleeve (40) being sealed against the entry of moisture by a forward face of the seal member (50) and an outer annular margin (D) of the seal member (50) being deformably compressed, respectively, against the retainer housing (34) and the interior wall (41) of sleeve (40).

  • Patent number: 4508408
Abstract: An annular, radially expansible/contractible spiral spring (50) includes inner and outer circumferential faces (54, 56) and a tab (60) disposed perpendicularly to the annulus and between the faces, the spring being adapted to mount a coupling nut (30) on a plug shell (20) and provide means for resisting rotation of the coupling nut in both coupling/uncoupling directions, the spiral spring having faces (52) overlapping and opposite ends (58a, 58b) free with tab (60) being disposed at one end (58b) and adapted to be received in successive detents (40) disposed around an end face (37) of the coupling nut, each detent (40) having angularly spaced sidewalls (42, 44) with one sidewall (42) being radially disposed and the other sidewall (44) being skewed and acutely-angled relative to a radius, the sidewalls being adapted to be driven against the tab to tighten (contract) or loosen (expand) the spring annulus relative to the plug shell, sidewall (44) being adapted to cam tab (60) radially from its detent and allow c

  • Patent number: 4487470
Abstract: A thin, flat, elongated band (50) of flexible material having opposite ends and of roughened surfaces is slidably wrapped about itself several times and around a plug shell (20) such that one end is confined against the plug shell and the other end is connected by a tab (52) to a coupling nut (30), the coupling nut including on its inner wall a plurality of radial detents (42) sized to successively receive the tab (52) upon rotation of the coupling nut, rotation of the coupling nut (30) and threadable coupling with a receptacle shell (10) in a coupling direction drawing the shells (10, 20) together whereby cooperating flanges (36, 22) on the coupling nut and plug shell and thread flanks are tightly abutting, coupling rotation tending to unwrap the band (50) so that it will slide freely about the plug shell, uncoupling rotation being resisted by the band tightly coiling so that it will not slide about the plug shell, increased external torque camming the tab (52) from its detent (42) and into the next detent,
