Abstract: Heterolayered thin films having ferroelectric/piezoelectric layers of alternating crystal structures and methods of their preparation are provided. In the ferroelectric/piezoelectric thin film, a first layer has a rhombohedral crystal structure and a second layer adjacent the first layer has a tetragonal crystal structure. The layers have a (100) preferred orientation with a-axis normal to the surface of the film. The first layer can be a Zr-rich lead ziroconate titanate layer (e.g. PbZr0.8Ti0.2O3) and the second layer can be a Ti-rich PZT layer (e.g., PbZr0.2Ti0.8O3). Heterolayered ferroelectric/piezoelectric thin film comprising a plurality of such first and second layers in alternating sequence exhibits particularly improved electrical properties.

Abstract: An explication system and method provides a storage unit for storing a plurality of words, explications corresponding to the words and a plurality of roots; segments a word to be searched according to the contents stored in the storage unit so as to segment the searched word into at least a root and at least a remaining portion composed of the remaining letters; judges whether the remaining portion has an explication stored in the storage unit; and explains the root and remaining portion according to the explications stored in the storage unit. Thus, words not stored in the word database can still be accurately explained, and the number of the words that can be explained is increased.

Abstract: A caption translation system is applied in an electronic device equipped with a display unit. The system comprises a controlling module, an obtaining module, a translating module and an integrating module. First, the controlling module issues a command initiating the obtaining module to obtain a caption signal from the original video signal received by the electronic device; the translating module the translates the caption signal obtained by the obtaining module; last, the integrating module integrates the translation result generated by the translating module with the original video signal and delivers it to the display unit for outputting, so as to solve the language difficulties for the audience viewing a non-native language television program or a pre-recorded program such as on a VCD or DVD etc.

Abstract: A user-interface language setting method and system is proposed, which is designed for use in conjunction with an information platform for providing a user-interface language setting function for the user to set a preferred language for the user interface on the information platform, so as to allow the user to operate the information platform with his/her preferred language, such as English, Chinese, Japanese, German, and others. This feature allows a user to utilize his/her preferred and most familiar language to operate the information platform.

Abstract: A multi-level query system and method can be applied to an information device to perform lookup and translation of a vocabulary of a foreign language. Firstly, a vocabulary to be inquired and translated is inputted via a screen of the information device to the system. Then, the system determines whether there is enough space for storing content from query of the vocabulary, and adjusts an assigned storage node according to the determination result so as to record an assignment condition of the storage node. Subsequently, the system stores the inputted vocabulary and assigns it to a corresponding position according to the storage node as well as displays a definition of the vocabulary. This can achieve multi-level query of continuous chains of vocabularies of a foreign language and also allow the query results to be switched between different levels.

Abstract: A data collecting method and system suitably used in a device with word learning function are disclosed. The system provides users to self defined collecting conditions for test data, that is, collecting those words manually added by the users and automatically added when wrongly answered in tests, so as to construct a self-defined test bank to facilitate the memorization of words.

Abstract: A prefix-indexed word-input aiding method and system is proposed, which is designed for use in conjunction with an electronic data processing unit for providing the user with a prefix-indexed word-input aiding function that can aid the user in the input of words of a certain phonetic language, such as English, into the electronic data processing unit. The proposed prefix-indexed word-input aiding method and system is characterized in that the user needs just to input the prefix part of a certain word, and a list of prefix-matched words will be popped out on screen for the user to select his/her desired word as the input word. This feature can help the user to create text-based electronic documents more quickly and efficiently.

Abstract: A key-controlled multi-level window activating method and interface is proposed, which is designed for use in conjunction with a window-based information platform for providing the user with a key-controlled multi-level window activating capability that allows the user to utilize keyboard keys, rather than mouse in the case of prior art, to activate each window in a hierarchical window system. This feature allows the user to open windows in a hierarchical window system more accurately and user-friendly without the drawback of inconvenient and unreliable use of mouse cursor as in the case of prior art.
