  • Patent number: 6468581
Abstract: A method for manufacturing a metallized luminescent screen, for a cathode-ray tube, includes the steps of: depositing at least one phosphor layer on an inner surface of a faceplate of a panel to form said luminescent screen, depositing on said layer a sub-layer consisting of a lacquer, drying said sub-layer to form a film, coating at least partially the internal surface of the faceplate panel with an aqueous solution of a copolymer of acrylic/styrene, drying the copolymer coating, depositing a metallic layer onto said copolymer coating, removing the organic materials contained in the luminescent screen, the film and the copolymer coating, by baking the tube panel.

  • Patent number: 5707682
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a phosphor screen (22) on an interior surface (23) of a faceplate panel (12) is characterized by the steps of: forming a light-absorbing matrix (24) on an interior surface (23) of the faceplate panel (12); applying an aqueous surfactant solution thereto to solubilize oily contaminants and emulsify undissolved oily contaminants of the matrix (24); and serially applying three light-emitting phosphors (G, B, R) to the interior surface (23) of the faceplate panel (12) to form the phosphor screen (22).

  • Patent number: 5145511
Abstract: A method for manufacturing a metallic, luminescent screen for a CRT includes the steps of: depositing at least one phosphor layer on an inner surface of a faceplate of a panel, to form the luminescent screen; preheating the panel containing the screen to a temperature in excess of a minimum film-forming temperature; and depositing an aqueous emulsion of at least one acrylic film-forming resin onto a screen and drying said emulsion to form the film. Then, a metallic coating is deposited onto the film and the panel bearing the metallized screen is sealed to a funnel by heating the panel and funnel through a sealing cycle. The sealing cycle has predetermined rates of temperature increase and includes a temperature range within which the film is volatilized. The rate of temperature increase within the volatilization range is less than the rate of temperature increase in other portions of the sealing cycle.

  • Patent number: 5108858
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for making a viewing screen structure for a cathode-ray tube. The method includes the steps of coating a support surface with a film of a polymeric material, a suitable dichromate and a sensitizer therefor which is a chromium ion migration enhancer having a reduced sensitivity to thermal and dark hardening; exposing the film to an image in the form of radiant energy until the solubility of the irradiated regions thereof is selectively altered, thereby producing in the film regions of greater solubility and regions of lesser solubility; removing those regions of the film with greater solubility to bare portions of the underlying support surface while retaining those regions of the film with lesser solubility. The bare portions of the support surface and the retained film regions are overcoated with a composition of light-absorbing material which is adherent to the support surface.

  • Patent number: 4990366
Abstract: A method for the metallizing of a luminescent screen comprises the following steps:the depositing of at least one luminophor coat, comprising at least one binder, on the inner face of the screen;the depositing of a sub-layer, consisting of at least one aqueous emulsion of a water-insoluble film-forming resin;the drying of the sub-layer and the heating of this screen to a temperature greater than the minimum temperature for the formation of the film;the depositing of a finishing layer;the drying of the finishing layer;the depositing of a metallic coating on the finishing layer, and,the volatilizing of the binders of the luminiphor screen, the sub-layer and the finishing layer, wherein the sub-layer and the finishing layer are made from the same aqueous emulsions of water-insoluble film-forming resins, said emulsions having a film-forming temperature of below 45.degree. C. and giving a continuous, thin, resistant, reflective and hydrophobic film.

  • Patent number: 4954366
Abstract: A method for the metallization of a luminescent screen comprises the following steps:the depositing, in a known way, of a layer of at least one luminophor containing, among others, a binder on a transparent face panel;the depositing, on said layer, of a sub-layer consisting of an aqueous emulsion of a water-insoluble resin, the emulsion being neutral or alkaline and being capable of forming a hydrophobic film;the drying of the sub-layer;the depositing, on said sub-layer, of a coating consisting of an aqueous emulsion of a water-insoluble film-forming resin, said emulsion containing 0.1% to 4.0% by weight of hydrogen peroxide, 0.25% to 2.5% by weight of a water-soluble polymer and 0.1% to 1.0% by weight of colloidal silica, the drying of the coating;the depositing of a metallic layer, andthe volatilizing of the binder, the sub-layer and the coating.

  • Patent number: 4533610
Abstract: In order to deposit an antireflection layer between the phosphor strips of the screen of a color television tube and on the face-plate flange, a photosensitive substance is applied on the internal face of the face-plate and is then exposed to radiation-hardening at the phosphor-strip locations, whereupon the non-hardened portions are removed. The flange and face-plate are then coated with the antireflection layer, H.sub.2 O.sub.2 is deposited in order to destroy the hardened strips which are finally removed together with their antireflection coating. Deionized water, for ensuring that the film of hardened photosensitive material which has formed on the flange is made uniform, is spray-deposited on the flange prior to deposition of photosensitive substance. After deposition of the antireflection layer, deionized water is also sprayed onto this layer prior to application of the oxygenated water. The destructive activity of the oxygenated water on the film is thus reduced.
