  • Publication number: 20130325123
Abstract: Load transferring systems and related methods for transferring load in a joint are provided. The load transferring system may include two bases configured to couple to bones defining a joint and a spring configured to couple to the bases. The spring may be configured to exert a tensile force between the bases during flexion of the joint. The load transferring system may be employed to treat symptoms associated with osteoarthritis of the lateral compartment of the knee joint. Thus, the bases may respectively couple to the femur and tibia. The spring may exert tensile force therebetween during flexion of the knee joint so as to unload the lateral compartment of the knee joint by transferring load from the lateral compartment of the knee joint to the medial compartment of the knee joint.

  • Publication number: 20130325122
Abstract: Various embodiments are directed to femoral and tibial bases that form structures of an implantable mechanical energy absorbing system. A bone facing surface of each type of base has a main surface portion and a plurality of protrusions extending from the main surface portion. The base can be attached to a bone so that the main surface portion is disposed in contact with but not penetrating into soft tissue at a substantially uniform distance from the bone.

  • Publication number: 20130289730
Abstract: Internal braces and methods of implanting same. A brace can be implanted on one side of a joint, or a pair of braces can be implanted, one on each opposite side of a joint. Each brace supports the joint over at least a portion of its range of motion. Distraction may be provided, or load sharing can be accomplished without distraction. Relative axial rotation of the bones connected by the brace may be permitted. One or more compliant members may be provided in the brace.
