  • Patent number: 9596506
Abstract: A broadcast programming receiver is provided which includes a broadcast programming interface, a memory, a communication network interface, and output circuitry. The broadcast programming interface is configured to receive broadcast programming, while the output circuitry is configured to transfer the broadcast programming to an output device. The memory is configured to store data related to the broadcast programming. In one embodiment, the communication network interface is configured to receive the data related to the broadcast programming over a communication network from a second broadcast programming receiver and transfer the data to the memory. In another implementation, the communication network interface is configured to receive the data from the memory and send the data over the communication network to a second broadcast programming receiver.

  • Patent number: 9161008
Abstract: The present invention is a set top box or other content management device that can convert television programming stored in a temporary buffer into a persistent event. The present invention may also trim data from a temporary buffer, such as an input buffer, without requiring additional software, RAM and other hardware normally associated with general purpose computers.

  • Patent number: 8949870
Abstract: A method is provided for transferring information from an information node to a broadcast programming receiver, such as, for example, a satellite or cable set-top box receiving broadcast programming. The information node is coupled with the broadcast programming receiver by way of a communication network, and is configured to receive the information. A command issued from the broadcast programming receiver to the information node indicates a condition under which the information is to be transferred to the broadcast programming receiver. In response to the command, the portion of the information indicated by the condition is transferred to the broadcast programming receiver.

  • Patent number: 5832522
Abstract: The data storage system is connected to a local area network and includes a storage server that on a demand basis and/or on a periodically scheduled basis audits the activity on each volume of each data storage device that is connected to the network. Low priority data files are migrated via the network and the storage server to backend data storage media, and the directory resident in the data storage device is updated with a placeholder entry to indicate that this data file has been migrated to backend storage. When the processor requests this data file, the placeholder entry enables the storage server to recall the requested data file to the data storage device from which it originated.
