  • Patent number: 6336079
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling a test track system for motor vehicles having at least one test station and a device for carrying out this method (European system), which allows a high utilization of the capacity of the test track system. This can be accomplished, for example, by the fact that the system can automatically make an unambiguous identification of the vehicle and an unambiguous identification of the tester at each testing section. Thus all the information compiled by the test stations is automatically allocated to the current vehicle being tested. This makes it possible for the tester to move the vehicle from one test road to another, for example, without having to initialize the system again at the new test road. The system recognizes automatically that the vehicle is being tested further in the second test road, for example.

  • Patent number: 5781286
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for measuring the wheel positions of double-track motor vehicles according to which the relevant wheel angles, such as the track, the king pin inclination, the inclination of the steering knuckle pivot, the axle pin rake, the eccentricity or the like, are detected by means of measuring heads mounted on the wheel rims of the vehicle wheels. The measurement data is evaluated and displayed by a processing means. The measuring heads are pivotable around an extension of the axis of rotation of the respectively related vehicle wheel. To be able to carry out measurements even with the vehicle wheels rotating, the measuring heads are held in their predetermined measuring position by means of a position control.

  • Patent number: 5477365
Abstract: A hand lamp for examining e.g. underbodies, brakes and wheel bearings of motor vehicles in test stands comprises a housing with a grip, at least one energy storage disposed in said housing, a light source with reflector, and switching elements for switching said light source on and off, wherein on the housing (1) at least one transmitting element (8) for remote control of specific components of the test stand is arranged which is connected to the energy storage (4) and the actuating switches (11, 12) via an electric control circuit (10).

  • Patent number: 5036700
Abstract: A method of and an apparatus for determining the engine power of an automotive vehicle on a roller dynamometer, the rollers of which can be braked with a constant brake poower. In accordance with the invention, in a first measuring operation the net power of the engine acting on the vehicle wheels is determined by sensing the braking power acting on the dynamometer rollers. In a second measuring operation, the slowing-down time is measured within which the speed has decreased from a predetermined value to a second preselected value with unbraked dynamometer rollers. In a third measuring operation the dynamometer rollers are braked with a consant brake power and the slowing-down time is measured within which the speed has decreased from the initial value to the preset final value. Thereafter, the internal power loss of the automotive vehicle is calculated. The gross power of the vehicle engine may be determined by adding the calculated power loss to the previously measured net power.

  • Patent number: 4750354
Abstract: A method is described for testing brakes on brake test stands or rigs for motor vehicles with a plurality of motor-driven axles, wherein the axle of the brake to be tested is not de-couplable. Both wheels of this axle stand on rollers or the like on the rig and, during the test procedure, are driven in opposite directions. During the test the speed of rotation of both wheels is measured and is maintained equal by means of a control operation regulated by the result of the measurement. Apparatus is described which includes devices, such as contact rollers, which measure the speed of rotation but are separate from the devices for driving the wheels. In the event of differences being detected between the measured rotational speed and the rotation speed of the other wheel a controller adjusts the rotational speed of one or both wheels. It is especially favorable if, on the wheels of the axle of the brake to be tested, a mark is secured which co-operates with a path or position recorder.
