  • Patent number: 11176034
Abstract: A method, computer program product, and computer system for receiving, by a computing device, new data to write to a leaf. At least two timestamps of the leaf may be examined. It may be determined whether a time interval between the at least two timestamps of the leaf is greater than an age threshold. The new data may be written to a first tier storage device when the time interval between the at least two timestamps of the leaf is less than the age threshold; The new data may be written to a second tier storage device when the time interval between the at least two timestamps of the leaf is greater than the age threshold.

  • Patent number: 11151159
Abstract: A method, computer program product, and computer system for receiving, by a target sent from a source, a first hash signature associated with a page of data. It may be determined that the first hash signature exists on the target. The target may receive a second hash signature sent from the source associated with the page of data. A third hash signature may be generated at the target. It may be determined that the second hash signature matches the third hash signature indicating the page of data exists on the target. A data-less write command may be executed using the page of data existing on the target to deduplicate the page of data existing on the target.

  • Patent number: 11144229
Abstract: An apparatus in one embodiment comprises at least one processing device comprising a processor coupled to a memory. The processing device is configured to identify a storage volume to be migrated from a source storage system to a target storage system, and for each of a plurality of logical addresses of the storage volume, to send a command requesting a content-based signature for the logical address to at least one of the source storage system and a host device and to receive the content-based signature in response to the command. Responsive to a first one of the received content-based signatures having a corresponding data page already stored in the target storage system, the processing device updates an associated reference count in place of requesting the corresponding data page. Responsive to a second one of the received content-based signatures not having a corresponding data page already stored in the target storage system, the processing device requests the corresponding data page.

  • Publication number: 20210286768
Abstract: Techniques for processing data may include: receiving a data block stored in a data set, wherein a hash value is derived from the data block; determining, in accordance with selection criteria, whether the hash value is included in a subset; responsive to determining the hash value is included in the subset, performing processing that updates a table in accordance with the hash value and the data set, and determining, in accordance with the information in the table, whether to perform deduplication processing for the data block to determine whether the data block is a duplicate of another stored data block. The table may include an entry for the hash value. The entry may include information identifying data sets referencing the data block and, for each of the data sets, may specify a reference count denoting a number of times the data set references the data block.

  • Publication number: 20210286726
Abstract: Techniques for cache management may include: receiving pages of data having page scores, wherein each of the pages of data is associated with a corresponding one of the page scores, wherein the corresponding page score associated with a page of data is determined in accordance with one or more criteria including one or more of a deduplication score, a compression score, and a neighbor score that uses a popularity metric based on deduplication related criteria of neighboring pages of data; and storing the page of data in a cache in accordance with the plurality of page scores. The cache may include buckets of pages where each bucket is associated with a different page size and all pages in the bucket are the different page size. • Patent number: 11113131
Abstract: First information for a first event of a computer system is captured, including first event parameters. A first event key is generated, based on the first event parameters. The first information and first key are both stored as a first event in a storage structure, in which the first event key indexes the first event and the captured first information. When second information is captured for a second event, a second event key is generated based on second event parameters of the captured second event. If the second event key matches the first event key, then the first event stored in the event collection system is dynamically updated to store the second event information as part of the first event, to minimize additional storage space needed in the storage structure for the second event.

  • Patent number: 11106585
Abstract: A method, computer program product, and computer system for receiving, by a computing device, an IO request on a first node. It may be determined whether a virtual address for the IO request is in a virtual cache. A read to RAID may be issued using the virtual address when the virtual address for the IO request is not in the virtual cache. A return of a cached page associated with the virtual address may be issued when the virtual address for the IO request is in the virtual cache.

  • Patent number: 11106365
Abstract: An aspect of performing flow control of IO in a synchronous replication session between a local storage and a remote storage of a storage system includes tracking an amount of time an input/output (IO) request is processed at the remote storage including an amount of time the IO request is in transmit to and from the remote storage system. The amount of time indicates a remote latency value. An aspect also includes tracking an amount of time the IO request is processed at the local storage and calculating a difference between the remote latency value and the amount of time the IO request is processed at the local storage. The difference indicates a local latency value. An aspect further includes modifying an amount of IO requests admitted at the storage system as a function of the local latency value.

  • Patent number: 11086558
Abstract: A storage system in one embodiment comprises a plurality of storage devices and a storage controller. The storage controller is configured to receive a delete instruction for a storage volume, and responsive to receipt of the delete instruction, to suspend any further changes to address metadata for the storage volume, to transfer the address metadata for the storage volume to persistent storage, and to delete the storage volume while also at least temporarily maintaining its data pages. The storage controller subsequently receives an undelete instruction for the deleted storage volume, and responsive to receipt of the undelete instruction, retrieves the address metadata from persistent storage and recovers the storage volume utilizing the address metadata. An expiration timer may be started in conjunction with the deletion of the storage volume, and responsive to the undelete instruction being received after a specified expiration time of the expiration timer, the undelete instruction is rejected.

  • Publication number: 20210240628
Abstract: Host I/O requests directed to a logical storage volume are initially processed by accessing physical pages of non-volatile data storage having a default page size. An indication of an optimal page size for the logical storage volume is received, and the size of the physical pages of non-volatile data storage accessed to process host I/O requests directed to the logical storage volume is changed from the default page size to the optimal page size for the logical storage volume. The default page size is changed to the optimal page size for the logical storage volume by changing a size of physical pages of non-volatile data storage indicated by a mapping structure that maps logical addresses in an address space the logical storage volume to corresponding physical pages of non-volatile data storage from the default page size to the optimal page size for the logical storage volume.
