    Abstract: The present invention relates to the displacement of a workpiece in a given direction to a good accuracy. According to the invention the friction between the workpiece and a sliding surface on which the workpiece is resting is overcome by a mechanical impulse. Preferably, the mechanical impulse is accomplished by means of an electrical voltage pulse, by mechanical or piezoelectrical means.
