  • Patent number: 4377073
Abstract: Methods for utilizing the heat content of a heated carrier agent are disclosed including indirectly contacting the carrier agent with a working fluid which boils at a temperature lower than water, in order to vaporize the working fluid, producing mechanical energy by expanding the working fluid to a number of reduced pressures, including the condensation pressure of the working fluid corresponding to atmospheric temperature conditions at the time, and a reduced pressure intermediate between the initial elevated pressure of the working fluid and that condensation pressure, separating the working fluid into separate streams corresponding to the working fluid at each of these reduced pressures, condensing the working fluid stream at the lowest pressure by indirectly contacting it with the atmospheric air, condensing the working fluid at the condensation pressure by indirectly contacting it with a liquid heat carrier, and repressurizing both of those working fluid streams for recycle.

  • Patent number: 4328675
Abstract: A method of obtaining work (e.g. electrical energy) in a counterpressure steam system in which the steam is expanded to produce work, e.g. drive an electrical current generator, in which the steam, prior to the expansion, is passed into isobaric heat exchange at an elevated pressure with expanded steam and is then heated substantially isobarically by externally supplied heat. After expansion and at a relatively low pressure, the steam is substantially isobarically cooled.

  • Patent number: 4182132
Abstract: Tropical and subtropical regions having high ambient temperatures and relative humidity can be locally subjected to cooling and dehumidification according to the invention by a tower in which, upon a post or other vertically extending support, a pair of vertically aligned spaced apart air guides are provided. The lower air guide includes the cooler which can simultaneously condense moisture from the air while the upper air guide can include a heat dissipator of a refrigeration cycle, the air guides being associated with respective blowers and inducing ambient air into the air guide at a location between them and displacing the air through the air guides into heat exchanging relationship. The tower can also be used to collect potable (drinking) water by condensation from the atmosphere.

  • Patent number: 3992891
Abstract: In a process for recovering the energy from a liquefied gas by evaporation in heat exchange with a cycle medium which is simultaneously cooled, said cycle medium being thereafter compressed, heated, subjected to engine expansion and recovered in a cyclical manner, wherein the improvement comprises operating the cycle so that the cycle medium remains in the gaseous phase throughout the entire cycle.

  • Patent number: 3952950
Abstract: A multiplicity of defogging devices, each having a closed refrigeration system, are arranged in two rows on opposite sides of an elongated strip to be maintained free from fog. The direction of the jet of each individual defogging device is determined by the wind direction and the location of the device in relation to the rest of the defogging devices in its row. The strength of the jets (outlet force or velocity) of the defogging devices of each row is determined by the wind velocity. The ratio between the strength of the jets of the defogging devices on the leeward side of the covered region and the strength of the jets of the defogging devices on the windward side therof is higher than 1 and is increased with increasing wind velocity.
