Abstract: A keyboard for a computer receptive to a modular or other device, and a modular touch screen device having at least one changeable virtual key, are described. The keyboard includes a connector receptive to a corresponding connector of a device such as a personal digital assistant (PDA) device. The device communicates with a computer through the keyboard in a docking mode. The modular touch screen device extends the capability of a keyboard to which it is connected in a docking mode by providing changeable virtual keys. In a stand-alone mode, the modular touch screen device acts as a truncated wireless keyboard, or a dynamic remote control, for a computer.

Abstract: An integrated docking tray assembly capable of docking a portable computer, in particular a laptop or notebook computer, comprising a tray having a docking station integrated therein for docking the portable computer. The tray is mounted underneath a work surface such as a desktop, tabletop, cabinet, shelf, or the like so that it may move between a closed position substantially retracted beneath the surface and an open position at least partially extended from the surface. Thus, when the portable computer is received in the tray and docked to the docking station, its keyboard and display may be accessed for use when the tray is in the open position and stored in the tray underneath the desktop when the tray is in the closed position. The tray may further include a support for providing support to a user's wrists while the user is typing on the keyboard of the computer.

Abstract: A detachable keyboard provides options to a computer user between a complete keyboard and a partial keyboard. The detachable keyboard comprises two sections, a docking station having a set of functions and a partial keyboard having a different set of functions. The partial keyboard is removed from the docking station when the partial keyboard is desired. If the complete keyboard is desired, then the partial keyboard section is mated with the docking station to provide a user both sets of functions. The detachable keyboard and the partial keyboard section are operable in either a wireless or wired configuration with each other and a computer system.

In order to facilitate angular positioning of the keyboard sections as well as removal of the keyboard sections from the portable personal computer housing, the keyboard sections are mechanically coupled together, for example, with a hinge at one end of the breakline. Such a configuration enables the relative angular positions of the keyboard sections to be custom positioned by the individual user for maximum adjustability in accordance with the user's preference both on and removed from the portable personal computer housing. Unlike other known keyboards, the keyboard, in accordance with the present invention, is formed in standard QWERTY format so as not to require retraining of users.
