  • Patent number: 4555101
Abstract: Apparatus and process for collating folded signatures which are removed from a stack of signatures and placed in parallel side-by-side relationship on saddle members. The saddle members move in a direction transverse to the folds in the signature, and thus spacing of the saddle members is close together and the entire apparatus and process can be performed at a high speed, in that arrangement. A signature pickup device is employed for removing the signatures from the stack in a stream relationship and delivering them directly to a collector where a flap opener can be employed for positioning the signature flaps on opposite sides of the collector saddle members.

  • Patent number: 3982749
Abstract: A signature feeder with a stack-supporting conveyor for moving a stack of signatures to a dispensing location. A pick-up conveyor engages the stack and positions the signatures in an imbricated stream and a guide member directs them to a deposit location where the signatures are again placed into a stack from whence they are dispensed to a feeder mechanism. Sensors are disposed at the forward face of the stack and also at the deposit location, and the sensors are connected to electric motors which in turn drive either the stack-supporting conveyor or the pick-up conveyor.

  • Patent number: 3969993
Abstract: A separator for a sheet stacker having a support for receiving a stack of sheets on a stack conveyor. Another conveyor brings a stream of sheets to the support, and a sheet counter counts the sheets and a stack separator plate is controlled by the counter and interrupts the stream when a certain number of sheets have passed into the stack. Drive mechanism connects to the separator plate and the stack conveyor for alternately driving them and thereby separating out a stack of sheets. The separator plate is automatically operated and is under the control of a fluid cylinder.
