  • Patent number: 5553805
Abstract: A method for winding sheet material from a assisting roller onto a roll includes the step of exerting a compensating force in a compensating force direction on a shaft of the roll. The compensating force at least partially counteracts a bending stress in the shaft due to a gravitational force from the roll and/or a contact force from the source roll. The shaft includes two ends that are disposed to rotate on bearings. The bearings are spaced apart and disposed near the two ends. The space between the bearings defines a winding space of the roll. An apparatus for practicing the method is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5431357
Abstract: A winding apparatus winds up a continuously fed web of material onto a number of winding cores. Shortly before removing a finished roll from a main winding location, a drive mechanism is coupled onto a winding core, located in a waiting position. The drive mechanism drives the winding core before the core is set down on a web of material running over a winding drum. The winding core remains driven until the winding core with already wound-up web of material has been transferred at the main winding location onto bearing arms. Due to the continuing driving of the winding core during a change of rolls, qualitatively high-grade rolls can be wound with a wide variety of webs of material.

  • Patent number: 5308008
Abstract: A process and apparatus for the winding-up of material webs on winding cores is provided. A material web is fed via a winding drum to a winding core or roll. The winding drum is displaceable, while the roll is blocked against displacement during winding. An adjusting device keeps the winding drum under constant pressure against the roll or with a constant clearance from it. With the roll diameter growing, the winding drum is o displaced against the force of the adjusting device into a limit position. On reaching the limit position, the blocking of the roll is released and the adjusting device pushes the winding drum into another limit position, whereupon the roll is again blocked. This sequence of movements is repeated until the roll is finished.
