  • Patent number: 7163271
Abstract: A method of an embodiment of the invention determines whether at least a portion of an image to be formed on a media sheet on a swath-by-swath basis by an image-formation mechanism includes one or more bar codes having a height that is less than a height of a swath of the image-formation mechanism. The mechanism adjusts the swath of the image-formation mechanism so that the bar codes are formed as part of the image on the media sheet within a single swath by the image-formation mechanism.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 11, 2004
Date of Patent: January 16, 2007
    Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.
Inventors: Antoni S Murcia, Yinan Xu
  • Patent number: 7097275
Abstract: System and methods for servicing staggered printheads in an inkjet-imaging device are described. In one aspect, the color inkjet-imaging device collectively moves one or more of the staggered printheads along a single actuation axis from a respective spittoon in a particular service station to a print zone without colliding with any portion of an adjacent cleaning unit.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 9, 2003
Date of Patent: August 29, 2006
    Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.

  • Patent number: 6644775
Abstract: Methods and arrangements are provided to service multiple staggered printheads in a color inkjet-imaging device. Multiple cleaning units are attached to a service station. Each cleaning unit includes multiple components to service a particular one printhead. Each cleaning unit is offset from an adjacent cleaning unit to form a staggered configuration to service the staggered printheads. The staggered printheads are moved from/to the service station to/from a print zone. The staggered cleaning unit configuration in combination with component positioning provides substantially unhindered access to move the staggered printheads into and out of the service station. Responsive to moving the staggered printheads into the service station, the cleaning units service the staggered printheads.

  • Patent number: 6582051
Abstract: An ink jet apparatus comprising a nozzle arranged to eject ink droplets and an edge detector arranged to detect droplets having a first range of trajectories and arranged not to detect droplets having a second range of trajectories, the nozzle being arranged to eject one or more first droplets from each of a plurality of positions known relative to the edge detector, the positions being arranged such that the number of first droplets detected by the edge detector varies in dependence upon the magnitude of a component of the ejection direction of the nozzle, the apparatus being arranged to substantially determine a component of the ejection direction of the nozzle in dependence upon the detection by the edge detector.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 28, 2002
Date of Patent: June 24, 2003
    Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Company
Inventors: Xavier Bruch, Ramon Vega, Antoni S Murcia, Xavier Alonso
  • Publication number: 20030081024
Abstract: A printing system includes a printhead assembly and a controller associated with the printhead assembly. The printhead assembly includes at least one printhead having a plurality of nozzles, and the controller is adapted to assign dot data representing an image to the plurality of nozzles and shift the dot data by at least one nozzle after a predetermined period.
