Publication number: 20040218888Abstract: Apparatus for providing strain relief of an optical ribbon cable caused by bending or other type of non-linear forces includes a base portion and a pivot portion both having a recess. The pivot portion is hingedly connected to the base portion and the recesses define a ribbon cable holding location. Compression members are provided in each of the recesses and define a gap therebetween for retaining optical fiber ribbon cables. The base portion and pivot portion are unitary and formed from a material which is non-opaque. An anchor portion is in contact with the base portion. The anchor portion has a tab member for indexing the apparatus with a support structure and a first latch member for securing the apparatus to a support structure. The hinge portion of the apparatus also has a second latch member for securing the hinge portion to the base portion.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 1, 2003Publication date: November 4, 2004Inventors: Bassel H. Daoud, Antonio Albino Figueiredo, Ivan Pawlenko

Patent number: 6249415Abstract: A surge protector for an electrical line is disclosed. The surge protector includes a pair of conductive pins respectively connectable to electrical lines. A first pin is soldered to a lead from a gas tube surge arrester. The lead is further fixed adjacent to the first pin and then attached to the second pin. A ground bracket having an opening is positioned between and connected with the other side of the surge arrester. As an electrical surge travels through the lines, the gas tube surge arrester begins to spark over, shunting overload conditions to the ground bracket. As the temperature begins to build, the solder flows, causing an open condition in which the surge arrester disconnects from the first pin, thereby eliminating the destructive effects of a prolonged electrical surge on the lines.Type: GrantFiled: May 10, 1999Date of Patent: June 19, 2001Assignee: Avaya Technology Corp.Inventors: Bassel Hage Daoud, George Andrew Debalko, Peter F. Eckhardt, Antonio Albino Figueiredo, Adam Stuart Kane, Jason A. Kay, Ivan Pawlenko

Patent number: 6198615Abstract: A telecommunications protection unit includes a voltage unit having an electrically insulating base configured to house a diode module assembly and a voltage limiting cell therein. The voltage limiting cell and diode module assembly are retained within the housing by a bus clip. The housing includes structure for preventing damage to the voltage limiting cell and diode module assembly during placement of the bus clip thereon. The diode module assembly is a one-piece article including a bus bar and several diodes and terminals which can be used by itself or in a voltage unit to provide desired electrical effects and facilitate assembly of an electrical system such as a telecommunications protection unit.Type: GrantFiled: June 12, 1998Date of Patent: March 6, 2001Assignee: Avaya Inc.Inventors: Walter Pelosi, David Stevens Kerr, Bassel Hage Daoud, Antonio Albino Figueiredo, Arnel Berton Citurs

Patent number: 5718593Abstract: Disclosed is a voltage and current protector device designed for insertion in connecting blocks. The current and voltage protection elements of the protector are mounted on a printed circuit board which has a conductive pattern on both major surfaces such that the elements can be mounted on either surface and the lead portion of the circuit board of the protector device can be inserted into the top or bottom surface slot of a connecting block depending upon which surface the elements are mounted.Type: GrantFiled: July 3, 1995Date of Patent: February 17, 1998Assignee: Lucent Technologies Inc.Inventors: Antonio Albino Figueiredo, Adam Stuart Kane

Patent number: 5643014Abstract: A mounting arrangement between connector modules of a double-sided modular connecting block and polarity sensitive current and voltage limiting circuit protection devices. Connector modules having multiple pairs of insulation displacement connecting (IDC) terminals are insertable into a mounting bracket to form the double-sided connecting block. Exclusionary posts are selectively molded into a front and rear side of the connector modules and correspond to each pair of terminals. The posts on the front of a connector module align and mate with a cavity included on a front-mounted current and voltage limiting protection device. Similarly posts molded in a different location on the rear side of the connector module align and mate with a cavity included in a rear-mounted protection module. The corresponding posts and cavities create an exclusionary key and slot interface which prevents circuit protection devices of improper polarity from being inserted within the wrong side of a connector module.Type: GrantFiled: May 17, 1995Date of Patent: July 1, 1997Assignee: Lucent Technologies Inc.Inventors: Wayne Scott Filus, Antonio Albino Figueiredo, Adam Stuart Kane, Theodore Edward Kluska, Wayne David Larsen, Jeremia Patrick Starace
