  • Patent number: 4763614
Abstract: Composite camshaft for internal combustion engines, comprising a support shaft carrying a series of sintered cam members in which through-holes are formed in their lobe parts defining the cam profiles. The shaft is tubular and the cam members are coupled to the shaft by hot driving.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 10, 1987
Date of Patent: August 16, 1988
    Assignee: Fiat Auto S.p.A.
    Inventor: Antonio Burgio di Aragona
  • Patent number: 4748948
Abstract: An internal combustion engine for motor vehicles in which the main journals for the crankshaft are rotatably supported by main bearings including upper portions fixed to the engine block and lower caps joined to the upper portions by pairs of tie-rods anchored at one end to the cylinder head and interconnected at their opposite ends by respective brackets which surround and clamp the caps against the upper portions of the respective main bearings.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 12, 1987
Date of Patent: June 7, 1988
    Assignee: Fial Auto S.p.A.
    Inventor: Antonio Burgio Di Aragona
  • Patent number: 4517936
Abstract: A tappet for use in internal combustion engines having variable-profile camshafts comprises an oscillating sliding block with a flat surface for contact with a cam, a bearing saddle for the block having anti-rotation guides, and a cup with shoulders for retaining the bearing saddle.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 12, 1983
Date of Patent: May 21, 1985
    Assignee: Fiat Auto S.p.A.

  • Patent number: 4505187
Abstract: A reciprocating engine, in particular for motor vehicles, incorporating a drive shaft, at least one pair of opposed pistons rigidly connected together by a rod, and a swash plate mechanism incorporating a pair of rotating swash plates coupled for rotation with the drive shaft and defining an annular cavity in which at least one oscillating plate is rotatably housed. Coupling means pivotally connect each oscillating plate with at least one respective rod connecting a pair of pistons, and a hydrodynamic thrust bearing is interposed between each of the two rotating plates and the facing surface of the oscillating plate.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 5, 1982
Date of Patent: March 19, 1985
    Assignee: Fiat Auto S.p.A.

  • Patent number: 4440348
Abstract: The invention relates to an injector for diesel engines with precombustion chambers, particularly of the low turbulence type, including an atomizer nozzle in which a needle slides to act as a shutter member for controlling the fuel flow towards an outlet hole in dependence upon the rate of flow of the fuel fed to the atomizer nozzle, and has a terminal portion which includes a cylindrical part, a tapering frusto-conical part and a shaped end part. In order to prevent the formation of carbonaceous deposits on the terminal portion of the needle, the latter has at least one flat face lying in a plane tangential to the periphery of the smaller end of the frusto-conical part.
