  • Patent number: 9860894
Abstract: Disclosed is a method of transmitting data over a plurality of wireless frequency bands between a transmitter and a receiver during one of a plurality of rounds, the method comprising: computing a target spacing in time between a start time of transmission in a first band and a start time of transmission in a second band dependent on a first data rate in the one round and in the first band; commencing transmitting, by the transmitter, a first frame of data over the first band at the first data rate; waiting for the computed target spacing to elapse, and then commencing transmitting, by the transmitter, a second frame of data over the second hand at a second data rate.

  • Publication number: 20100254390
Abstract: A method of managing transfer of packets in a packet digital communications network wherein at least some of the packets comprise a plurality of segments is disclosed. The method comprises providing a buffer (104) for storing segments arriving for transmission on a virtual channel, always admitting (150) a segment of a packet on a virtual channel for storage in the buffer (104) when a previous segment of the packet on said virtual channel has been admitted in the buffer (104), rejecting (149) a segment of a packet on a virtual channel for storage in the buffer when any previous segment of the packet on said virtual channel has been rejected for storage, and applying an admission criterion to each first segment of a packet on a virtual channel.

  • Publication number: 20060291447
Abstract: Systems and methods for provisioning a virtual circuit having a predetermined Quality of Service (QoS) in packet networks such as the Internet. A system for provisioning a virtual circuit having a predetermined QoS is provided for a packet network, consisting of (1) a circuit client (108) connected to the network and able to generate a request for a packet flow between two nodes at a predetermined QoS; and (2) a circuit manager (CM) able to receive the circuit client's (108) request and process such request in order to provide a route between the two nodes, such route having the predetermined QoS.

  • Patent number: 6411627
Abstract: A method of controlling the flow of traffic in synchronous transfer mode (ATM) network (10), which brings into possible existence a class (class II) of ATM cells. The ATM network (10) comprises one or more ATM switches (14) coupled by links (20) providing communication channels between the ATM switches (14). The method subjects the class II cells received at an input port of a particular ATM switch (14) to control, originating within the switching element of that ATM switch. The method allows only up to a fixed number of class II cells from a particular input port to be in the switch awaiting onward transfer. Although the control is on class, it nonetheless tends to produce fairness in service among different connections.

  • Patent number: 5689499
Abstract: An apparatus and method are provided for supporting a plurality of virtual channel (VC) connections within a single virtual path (VP) in a digital communications network operating in the Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM). The apparatus (56) is combined with the cross-connected part of a conventional VC switch (54) to form a Data Switch (40). A VP switch (42) switches and terminates incoming bandwidth-resourced VPs on lines (48), some of which are carrying non-bandwidth-resourced VCs and switched onto lines 50 on the output side of VP switch 42. VPs on lines (50) are switched and multiplexed by the Data Switch (40). Buffers (66) store cells and a VP rate server. The buffers (66) are significantly larger than in a conventional VC switch to enable smoothing of data flow peaks associated with data flowing from multiple bandwidth resourced VP tributaries into single resourced VP tributaries. Despite the large buffers in the Data Switch (40) congestion may result when data bursts occur on several converging streams.

  • Patent number: 5146477
Abstract: A method of transmitting digital signals (DI) in frames which include a stuffing field between nodes (N) in a network, each node having a buffer and a local clock for producing local clock signals (CLK2). The method includes the steps of extracting clock signals (CLK1) from the digital signals (DI), writing the digital signals into a buffer at the extracted clock signal (CLK1) rate, reading the digital signals from the buffer including reading the content of the stuffing field in order to add or substrate stuffing bits therein in order to compensate for differences in frequencies between the local and extracted clock signals (CLK1, CLK2), and controlling the adding or subtracting of stuffing bits so that the length of the stuffing field is within predetermined limits.

  • Patent number: 5050166
Abstract: A method and apparatus for transmitting variable length messages on a network in fixed length slots including the provision of a source identifier field in the header of each slot, the source identifier field including a code which is uniquely associated with the message to be transmitted. The fixed length slots are then transmitted on the network and reassembly of the slots by a reassembly machine is controlled in accordance with the identifier codes in the slot.
