Patent number: 7974894Abstract: Methods and systems for classifying entities according to metrics of earnings quality are provided. At least one value corresponding to earnings quality of an entity is generated based on at least one metric of accruals, and the entity is classified according to the at least one value. For example, the entity may be classified according to the value as likely to have overstated its earnings and/or as likely to experience one or more business outcomes (e.g., a change in stock price, SEC enforcement action, and/or class-action lawsuit). As another example, multiple entities may be separated into various classes by ranking the entities according to their respective values. Such a ranking may provide useful heuristics regarding whether the entities have manipulated (e.g., overstated or understated) their earnings. Information about the classification may be made available for a fee and may allow parties to make better business and regulatory decisions.Type: GrantFiled: March 4, 2005Date of Patent: July 5, 2011Assignee: Institutional Shareholder Services Inc.Inventors: Neil Baron, Scott A. Richardson, Antonio Figueiredo, James Nadler

Patent number: 6699064Abstract: A connector assembly including at least one connector coupled to a connector housing and, at least one trough disposed on two opposing sides of the housing, such that a wire coupled to the at least one connector passes through both troughs. The troughs operate to reduce the strain on the wire by shifting forces on the wire away from a wire wrap section where the wire is coupled to the at least one connector.Type: GrantFiled: October 7, 1999Date of Patent: March 2, 2004Assignee: Avaya Technology Corp.Inventors: Bassel Daoud, George A. DeBalko, Antonio A. Figueiredo, Mikhail Sumetskiy, Christopher M. Helmstetter

Patent number: 6494737Abstract: A wire connector block is provided which is formed to be used with both wire wrapping and wave soldering in connecting wires to wire connectors mounted thereon. Additionally, a method is disclosed for mounting a ribbon wire onto a printed wire board (PWB) that is connected to wire connectors. The ribbon wire is manipulated, preferably bent, to define an enclosed space with the printed wire board in which is disposed a material that is resistant to the passage of moisture therethrough.Type: GrantFiled: September 22, 1999Date of Patent: December 17, 2002Assignee: Avaya Technology Corp.Inventors: Bassel H. Daoud, George A. Debalko, Antonio A. Figueiredo, Adam S. Kane, Christopher M. Helmstetter

Patent number: 6247959Abstract: A modular plug assembly is provided which includes a modular plug body, and an insulation displacement connector (IDC), having a terminal body and a terminal strip. The assembly is formed to engage a wire, including a multi-conductor wire, and be inserted into a modular jack to form an electrical connection between the wire and the modular jack. Any length of wire can be used, and in the preferred embodiment of the invention, the assembly engages the wire in a toolless manner.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 1999Date of Patent: June 19, 2001Assignee: Avaya Technology Corp.Inventors: Bassel H. Daoud, David S. Kerr, Christopher Helmstetter, Antonio A. Figueiredo, George Debalko

Patent number: 6152759Abstract: A strain relief for an insulation displacement connector contains a cap section and a base section connected to the cap section at a pivot point. The cap section has at least one wire insertion channel and a first wall. The wire insertion channel has an entrance aperture which is in fluid communication with an exit aperture for passage therethrough in an insertion of an inserted wire. The exit aperture is contained in the first wall. The cap section is pivotally moveable between an open position which facilitates insertion of the wire into the cap section through the entrance aperture and out through the exit aperture, and a closed position. The base section has a side wall and a base hole or depression formed in the base section at the foot of the side wall. The base hole includes a wire stop portion at its bottom.Type: GrantFiled: December 21, 1998Date of Patent: November 28, 2000Assignee: Lucent Technologies Inc.Inventors: Bassel H. Daoud, Christopher M. Helmstetter, Antonio A. Figueiredo, Jason A. Kay, Walter Pelosi

Patent number: 6123566Abstract: A terminal strip with an integrated strain relief mechanism is deployed in an insulation displacement connector that contains a cap section, a base section including at least one terminal strip, and a latch member. The cap section is movable between an open position and a closed position and has therein at least one terminal strip receiving portion and at least one wire insertion channel for holding a wire. The channel has an entrance aperture for entry of the wire. The open position facilitates entry of the wire into the channel. When the cap section is in the closed position, the terminal strip is contained within the cap in the terminal strip receiving portion. The terminal strip includes a first arm having a first arm recess and a second arm having an offset tab. The latch member is movable between an engaged position and a disengaged position such that when the latch member is in the engaged position, it maintains the cap section in the closed position.Type: GrantFiled: December 21, 1998Date of Patent: September 26, 2000Assignee: Lucent Technologies Inc.Inventors: Bassel H. Patent number: 5627721Abstract: A surge protection cartridge adapted for use with a double-sided modular connector block system. The protector cartridge advantageously mounts in the front or rear of a connector module of the connector block in a variety of orientations in order to protect an entire row of terminations on the block. Two L-shaped brackets adapted to couple to a mounting bracket of the connector block form an internal ground bus within the protector cartridge. The brackets include a series of cantilever connecting clips which couple directly to the surge protection devices. Spring contacts having similar cantilever clips couple the remaining leads of the surge protection devices and the terminals of the connecting block which are to be protected. Each individual spring contacts is seated within an individual insulated well of the cartridge housing.Type: GrantFiled: July 14, 1995Date of Patent: May 6, 1997Assignee: Lucent Technologies Inc.Inventors: Antonio A. Figueiredo, Adam S. Kane, Jeremia P. Starace

Patent number: 5595507Abstract: A hinged mounting bracket and attachable ground bar used in conjunction with a telephone wire termination block. The mounting bracket is adapted to accept modular connectors in order to form any size connecting block. The hinged bracket consists of two pieces, a bracket base and a front flap which receives the modular connectors. In a preferred embodiment, the front flap is coupled to the base by a hinge which enables the bracket to rotate open so that rear terminals of the modular connectors may be easily accessed. The ground bar is attachable to the front or rear of the mounting bracket in order to provide a ground for gas tube circuit protectors that may be inserted into the modular connectors. The ability to secure the ground bar to the mounting bracket in a variety of orientations provides additional flexibility for all types of wiring schemes. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the ground bar couples to support posts on the mounting bracket utilizing a force fit insertion.Type: GrantFiled: May 17, 1995Date of Patent: January 21, 1997Assignee: Lucent Technologies Inc.Inventors: Rudy R. Braun, Antonio A. Figueiredo, Adam S. Kane, Jeremia P. Starace
