  • Publication number: 20040088085
Abstract: A method of preventing un-commanded power surging of an aircraft engine includes two steps of detecting whether the Weight-On-Wheels signal is on and detecting whether the Low-Power-Lever-Angle-Discrete signal is on, which indicate whether the aircraft is on the ground and whether the throttle lever is positioned for a low power range. If both results are positive, a further step is performed for comparing a measured engine power or thrust level with a predetermined threshold and a final step reduces the fuel supply or shuts down the engine, if the measured engine power level is greater than the predetermined threshold.

  • Patent number: 6293085
Abstract: The present invention is addressed to a control logic for determining the occurrence of shaft decoupling in a gas turbine engine. The control logic in the preferred embodiment receives inputs for shaft rotational speed and/or compressor pressure and uses these parameters for making a determination of shaft decoupling in fractions of a second, before serious damage to the gas turbine engine can occur. The control logic also utilizes multiple interval sampling, and sampling over multiple channels to verify any determination of shaft decoupling. Once a shaft decouple has been verified, fuel flow to the engine is cut off, thus shutting down the engine.

  • Patent number: 6195247
Abstract: The present invention is addressed to an exciter circuit used as part of an engine ignition system which is controlled by a full authority digital engine control or FADEC. Two channels of the FADEC system are connected to two channels on the exciter system in a cross talk arrangement. This permits any one channel on the FADEC to control both channels on the exciter for redundancy purposes. The establishment of a FADEC control of an exciter system also permits selective use of the exciters and reduces wear on the exciter circuitry and ignition system components.
