  • Patent number: 10392315
Abstract: An integrated process for the production of propene from a mixture of alcohols obtained by IBE (Isopropanol-Butanol-Ethanol) fermentation from at least one renewable source of carbon is disclosed. The process is characterized by dehydration of the alcohols in order to generate ethene, propene and linear butenes, respectively. The olefin mixture is then directed to an isomerization bed in order to generate 2-butene from 1-butene, followed by a metathesis bed to react ethene and 2-butenes to generate additional propene. This process exhibits a yield in carbon moles higher than 90% propene with respect to the alcohols produced in the fermentation step.

  • Patent number: 8835703
Abstract: The present invention describes a method for the production of one or more olefins from the residue of at least one renewable natural raw material. The present invention is advantageously related to a method that is integrated with a processing method for processing renewable natural agricultural raw materials for the production of propylene, and optionally of ethylene and butylene, mainly from the residues of the processed renewable natural agricultural raw material. The propylene is obtained from the gasification reaction of the lignocellulosic materials and of other organic products contained in the raw material residues, followed by the formation of methanol and its subsequent transformation into propylene, where this route may further generate ethylene and/or butylene as by-products.

  • Publication number: 20130203953
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for the production of an olefin from at least one renewable natural raw material. More specifically, the present invention refers to a method whereby is obtained ethylene or propylene at high yield and high productivity by means of the anodic electrodecarboxylation reaction of carboxylic acids, respectively propionic acid and butyric acid, produced from fermentation, preferably of sugars. The method for generating the olefin is simple, has a low cost, and provides low emissions of greenhouse gasses of fossil origin.

  • Publication number: 20130095542
Abstract: The invention provides fermentative methods for producing n-propanol. The methods of the invention involve providing a suitable carbon source, a microorganism expressing the dicarboxylic acid pathway, reducing equivalents, and at least one gene coding for an enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of propionate/propionyl-CoA into n-propanol. The methods further involve contacting the carbon source and reducing equivalents with the microorganism under conditions favorable for the production of n-propanol. Also provided are methods for producing propylene and polypropylene from the n-propanol and microorganisms suitable for use in the methods of the invention.

  • Publication number: 20120238721
Abstract: An ethylene-butylene copolymer prepared from integrated processes for the production of ethylene-butylene copolymers produced from at least one renewable natural raw material, wherein, in the ethylene monomer used in the polymerization of the ethylene copolymer with 1-butylene, as the comonomer, ethylene is obtained by the ethanol dehydration reaction, in which ethanol is produced by the fermentation of sugars, and the 1-butylene comonomer is obtained according to at least one of dehydration reactions involving 1-butanol and the dimerization reaction of ethylene produced by the dehydration of ethanol obtained from the fermentation of sugars, followed by the isomerization of the 2-butylene isomers then formed. The ethylene-butylene copolymer thus produced is completely based on carbon atoms originated from renewable natural raw materials which, upon incineration, produce CO2 from a non-fossil origin.
