  • Publication number: 20050040693
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a mascara brush provides a mascara brush with bristle fibers that are split into numerous fragments. The mascara brush is made with bristle fibers having longitudinal voids. The brush is then conditioned by passing a rotating wire wheel over the bristle fibers. The wire wheel splits the bristle fibers into numerous bristle fragments. The conditioned brush is softer to the touch than the original mascara brush. The conditioning can be applied to the entire brush or one or more zones of the brush. The conditioning can be shallow, so that only the bristle tips are conditioned, or deep, so that a substantial length of the bristle is conditioned.

  • Publication number: 20040237989
Abstract: An improved mascara brush comprises a twisted wire core holding a plurality of radially extending bristles forming a brush at an end of the core. The wire of the twisted wire core has a diameter of about 0.028 inch to about 0.040 inch, and the twisted wire core has a pitch of about 0.140 inch to about 0.250 inch. Preferably, the twisted wire core has a pitch of about 0.150 inch to about 0.200 inch. The bristle density of the bristles per turn of the wire core will vary according to the diameter of the bristles,; the full range of the bristle density is 10-80 bristles per turn.

  • Patent number: 6810885
Abstract: An improved mascara brush has a typical twisted wire core containing bristles having a high durometer and relatively large diameter. The bristle density is in the range of 8 to 20 bristles per turn; more preferably 10-15 bristles per turn, and most preferably 12-14 bristles per turn. The bristles have a diameter of from 0.010 inch to about 0.016 inch, preferably 0.011 inch to 0.014 inch, and most preferably 0.011 or 0.012 inch. The bristle durometer is in the range of about 92 Shore D hardness to 120 Rockwell R; more preferably about 100 to 120 Rockwell R; most preferably about 103 to 108 Rockwell R. In one preferred embodiment, the filaments have a durometer of 108 Rockwell R. The brush is stable and effective for rapid lengthening of eyelashes and combing of the eyelashes.

  • Patent number: 6682242
Abstract: A dual cosmetic applicator is formed from two applicator units, each of which includes a cap from which extends an applicator and an internally threaded sleeve facing the applicator. An enclosure includes an externally threaded end portion adapted to threadably engage the internally threaded sleeve of the cap. Each applicator unit also includes a coupling member which is formed by a central internal member surrounded by a peripheral wall, the peripheral wall having a plurality of projections laterally extending therefrom beyond the central internal member and a plurality of recesses corresponding in size, shape and number to the projections. An inner surface of the projections includes one half of a mating pair of snap fitting elements, while an outer surface of central internal member adjacent the recesses includes the other half of the mating pair of snap fitting elements.

  • Publication number: 20030150076
Abstract: An improved mascara brush has a typical twisted wire core containing bristles of Z-Shaped cross-section. The Z-shaped cross-section may be a conventional Z-shape; or it may be square or rectangular thereby defining a cross-section of discontinuous square, diamond or polygon shape with a connecting web; or it may be circular or oval thereby defining a cross-section of discontinuous circular shape with a connecting web. In either embodiment the cross-sectional shape effectively creates two longitudinal voids extending along the length of the bristle.

  • Publication number: 20030150077
Abstract: An improve mascara brush has a typical twisted wire core containing bristles having a double lumen cross-section. The bristles are generally circular in shape, and hollow, with a dividing web across the midpoint of the bristle, thereby defining two longitudinal lumens extending along the length of the bristle. In other embodiments, the bristle is oval, square, rectangular or another polygonal shape.

  • Patent number: 5638839
Abstract: A refillable cosmetic case has a base with a recess for a releasable tray held in place by a tray retaining cover hinged in the base and having a latching element. The case lid has a rear edge and is hinged to the base at an edge opposite the tray cover hinge, and the lid rear edge can be associated with the tray to assist in its removal whereby when the lid is opened beyond its usual limit of travel the rear edge releases the latching element and thus the tray retaining cover. The cover pivots back on its hinge, so the tray can be lifted out and refilled or replaced.

  • Patent number: 5199451
Abstract: A makeup compact base has a frame or insert secured thereto. The frame features flexible downward wings having retaining ribs across the lower ends thereof. A cosmetic tray may have a top flange adapted to sit in the frame, and complimenting grooves on the outside of the tray snappingly receive the ribs so that normally the tray is held snugly down inside the frame. The compact cover is hinged and is shaped in a portion adjacent the hinge so that when the compact is forced open beyond its normal open position said portion forces the tray up out of its frame to make it available for replacement.
