  • Publication number: 20080106373
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of authenticating a physical object using a helper data and a control value associated with a reference object, the method comprising: acquiring a metric data of the physical object, generating a first property set using a noise compensating mapping on input data derived from information comprising said helper data and metric data, establishing a sufficient match between said physical and reference object using said property set and control value. The method further comprising a step to generate a noise measure, the step comprising the following sub-steps: reconstructing the output of a noise robust mapping generated during the enrolment of the reference object using the noise compensating mapping, and generating the noise measure by calculating the difference between the input to the noise compensating mapping and the output of the noise robust mapping. Also provided are an apparatus and system configured to carry out the method.

  • Publication number: 20080013794
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and a system of recognizing an ear by locating an invariant point in a representation X of ear geometry. An idea of the present invention is the improve the well known Iannarelli algorithm in that the scheme of the present invention captures and processes all pixels values along an axis and may use an arbitrary number of axes to combine these pixel values to a complete feature vector with a sufficient level of discrimination. The prior art Iannarelli method is improved by performing a Fourier transformation of a polar representation e[?, p] of the ear, whereby a transformed E[?/P] polar representation is created. This transformed representation is sampled to create an ear feature vector XF.

  • Publication number: 20070266427
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and a system of determining correspondence between location sets. A basic idea of the present invention is to provide a scheme in which correspondence between location sets is determined. A feature location set (X) comprising a number (n+1) of components is transformed into a feature vector that can be used in an HDS. Therefore, a feature density function (ƒjs(x)) is created. A feature vector (XF) for the HDS is chosen to be a sampled version of the feature density function (ƒX,g(x) ), which results in feature vectors of equal and finite dimensions regardless of the number (n+1) of features that are present in the biometric template XT from which the location sets is derived. Thereafter, a distance (d) between two feature location sets (X, Y) is determined. The distance (d) between the sets is chosen to be the Euclidian distance between the corresponding feature density functions.

  • Publication number: 20070245154
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of authenticating an individual (321) at an authenticating device (311) and an authenticating system for authenticating an individual. A basic idea of the present invention is to store, at a device or a system with which an individual wishes to authenticate herself, one or more data structures each comprising a value based on an identifier pertaining to the individual and an encrypted copy of the identifier. When the individual wants to authenticate herself, she contacts the authenticating device whereby a request is made to attain the encrypted identifier included in a specific data structure stored at the authenticating device. The individual subsequently provides proof to the authenticating device that she actually knows the identifier.

  • Publication number: 20070226512
Abstract: The present invention relates to a system and a method of verifying the identity of an individual by employing biometric data associated with the individual (603), wherein privacy of said biometric data (X, Y) is provided. A helper data scheme (IIDS) is employed to provide privacy of the biometric data. The present invention is advantageous for number of reasons. First, processing of security sensitive information is performed in a secure, tamper-proof environment (601, 604, 606) which is trusted by the individual. This processing, combined with utilization of a helper data scheme, enables set up of a biometric system where the biometric template is available in electronic form only in the secure environment. Moreover, electronic copies of the biometric templates are not available in the ecure environment permanently, but only when the individual offers her template to the sensor.

  • Publication number: 20070180261
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and a system of verifying the identity of an individual by employing biometric data associated with the individual while providing privacy of said biometric data. A basic idea of the present invention is to represent a biometric data set XFP with a feature vector. A number of sets XFP1, XFP2, . . . XFPm of biometric data and hence a corresponding number of feature vectors is derived, and quantized feature vectors X1, X2, . . . , Xm are created. Then, noise robustness of quantized feature components is tested. A set of reliable quantized feature components is formed, from which a subset of reliable quantized feature components is randomly selected. A first set W1 of helper data is created from the subset of selected reliable quantized components. The helper data W1 is subsequently used in a verification phase to verify the identity of the individual.

  • Publication number: 20070090312
Abstract: An optical arrangement of at least a coherent light source (1), a strongly scattering object (5) (the PUF), and a pixe-lated photo-detector (6), wherein the pixels are comparable in size with the bright and dark patches of the speckle pattern produced by coherent radiation traversing the scattering object (5). Quantitively, the pixel size should be roughly ?/NA, where ? is the wave-length, and (i) NA=a/z for free-space geometry, with a being the beam radius and z being the distance between the exit surface of the PUF (5) and the pixelated detector (6), or (ii) NA is the numerical aperture of a lens (7) in an imaging geometry. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, there are tentative requirements that the pixels should be at least smaller than ?max?NA and preferably larger than ?max?/NA, where (in an exemplary embodiment) ?max=5 and ?min=0.05, say.

  • Publication number: 20060274614
Abstract: PHNL031053 An apparatus for processing data from an optical disk (20) generates a data signal by decoding information from the track (21) and a track position signal that is indicative of the radial position and/or depth of the track (21), and/or jitter in the position of edges of bit signals from the track (21). From the track position signal, values of plurality of characteristic measures are computed so that the computed values are substantially invariant under a phase of disk rotation, for example by determining the absolute values of Fourier transform components at multiples of the revolution frequency. Conditional use of the data signal is controlled dependent on the values computed for the characteristic measures. In one embodiment access is granted when the computed values match predetermined values for the disk.

  • Publication number: 20060262964
Abstract: The invention applies to the verification of the identity of an object based on measurements of a physical characteristic of said object. In an enrollment phase, an object with known identity is measured. The resulting enrollment measurement is stored for future reference. Then in the verification phase, an object presented for verification is measured, and the verification measurement is compared with the enrollment measurement to decide whether or not the two measurements originate from the same object. According to the invention, the enrollment and the verification measurements are modeled as two realizations of a first random variable affected by an enrollment noise and a verification, noise respectively, said enrollment and verification noises being a realization of a second and a third random variable, respectively, said first, second and third random variables having known distributions.

  • Publication number: 20050249108
Abstract: The invention relates to a record carrier (1) like a CD-RW+ or a DVD supporting an improved handling and, in particular, an improved access control to information stored on the record carrier (1) by supplying an additional information source. The record carrier (1) has a first area (3) for storing a first kind of information and further has multiple second areas (4.1, . . . , 4.8) each designed for comprising a coupling element to a device for reading and/or writing the record carrier (1), the distribution of the coupling elements on the record carrier (1) encoding a third kind of information, e.g. a regional code indicating the geographical regions the record carrier (1) is valid. Storage media storing information of second kinds may supplement the coupling elements and a coupling element and a storage medium may be integrated into a chip. Making the coupling elements detachable from the record carrier (1) results in an easy way of modifying the third kind of information on a finished record carrier (1).
