Abstract: According to an embodiment, a portable device includes a reading device that reads an identification information image that is output from the printer. A communication interface wirelessly communicates with the printer. A processor identifies an authentication key included in the identification information image read by the reading device. The processor transmits, via the communication interface, the identified authentication key to the printer. The processor receives, via the communication interface and in response to transmitting the identified authentication key, a notification that the portable device is authorized to use the printer to print. When the notification is received, the processor controls the communication interface to transmit print data to the printer to cause the printer to print an image corresponding to the print data.
