Abstract: An imaging base paper is disclosed having a center raw-base cellulose paper, a front layer of polyolefin laminated to the front side of the center raw-base cellulose paper and a rear layer of polyolefin laminated to the rear side of the center raw-base cellulose paper having areas of a higher gloss level in first regions of the rear side of the imaging base paper and having areas of a lower gloss level in second regions of the rear side of the imaging base paper surrounding the first regions. The gloss difference between the first regions and the second regions on the coated paper amounts to from about 20 to 80, as measured with a measuring head under an angle of 60 degrees, according to standard ASTM D 523.

Abstract: A chill cylinder roll, disposed in-line and furnished with etched or engraved patterns or symbols on its surface, is employed during the extrusion coating. The pattern, to be transferred to the back side polyolefin coating, is characterized by an increase in height or, alternatively, a decrease in height of the surface level in certain areas of the chill cylinder roll, and which is further distinguished, as compared to the remaining cylinder-roll surface, by a different gloss. In particular, higher disposed surface parts of the chill cylinder roll, relative to the center axis of the roll, always exhibit a higher gloss.

Abstract: Polyolefin coated photographic base papers are stabilized by a polymeric hindered amine (Chimassorb 944) having a mean molecular weight above 2500. The stabilizer is highly effective and overcomes a diminution of opacity noted with the use of phosphonate esters of the prior art.

Abstract: A photographic base paper in which the resin coating contains a stabilizer of formula, ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is a sterically hindered hydroxyphenyl R.sup.2 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 alkyl, and x is 1 to 4, or a metal salt of the corresponding phosphonate anion.

Abstract: Resin coated papers having improved properties especially edge penetration are made using an alkyl ketene dimer neutral size, a wet strength resin and an anionic polyelectrolyte to control the streaming potential of the papermaking stock during manufacture of the paper. Advantageously a supplementary size especially an epoxidized fatty acid amide is also used.

Abstract: Sheet material having a polymeric surface for receiving a photographic image, the material comprising an antistatic agent which is a synthetic hectorite clay having a layered structure the layers of which are electrically charged.
