  • Patent number: 11955139
Abstract: A disk spindle assembly for a hard disk drive includes a hub and a hub flange extending radially from the hub and configured to apply a clamping force to secure disk media to the hub. The hub flange includes multiple protrusions extending from a surface of a top side and configured to contact a disk medium at multiple contact positions in response to application of a clamping load. The protrusions may be annular protrusions circumscribing the hub, where the height of an inner protrusion may be less than the height of an outer protrusion to inhibit coning of the bottom disk medium, and the protrusions may be positioned so that an equivalent contact radius corresponding to contact radii of the inner and outer annular protrusions is at a position halfway between the inner and outer diameters of the disk spacers to inhibit coning of the middle disk media.

  • Patent number: 8929025
Abstract: A clamping device for coupling a rotatable component of a machine with a shaft, including a balance hole configured to confine a counterweight. The clamping device includes a circular plate. The circular plate includes at least one fastener hole configured to accept a fastener, and at least one balance hole. The fastener is configured to fasten the clamping device to couple the component with the shaft. The balance hole includes a cavity configured to accept a counterweight. The counterweight is configured to balance the rotational motion of at least the circular plate when the shaft is rotated. Moreover, the cavity is configured to confine the counterweight to an end of the cavity by effects of rotation of the shaft on the counterweight when the shaft is rotated.

  • Patent number: 8873231
Abstract: An electronic device enclosure configured to shield against electromagnetic interference (EMI). The electronic device enclosure includes an electronic device-enclosure base and at least one laterally disposed blunt boss. The electronic device-enclosure base includes a bottom, and sides and attached to the bottom in a boxlike configuration. The laterally disposed blunt boss is configured so as to be disposed between, and to couple electrically, a side of the electronic device-enclosure base and a vertical flange of an electronic device-enclosure cover. The electronic device-enclosure base and the electronic device-enclosure cover are configurable with respect to said laterally disposed blunt boss to shield an interior space enclosed by the electronic device-enclosure base and the electronic device-enclosure cover against EMI at a resonant frequency of a slot of the electronic device enclosure.

  • Patent number: 8085494
Abstract: An airflow diverter in a hard disk drive system. A top portion configured to couple with a top housing of the disk drive system. A thickness configured to create a top clearance between the diverter and a top actuator arm of the disk drive system wherein the top clearance approximates a bottom clearance between a bottom housing of the disk drive system and a bottom actuator arm of the disk drive system. At least one surface configured to divert the airflow in the disk drive system during the operation of the disk drive system.

  • Patent number: 8077432
Abstract: An improved disk stack assembly for a hard disk drive (HDD) includes a generally cylindrical hub with flange having a downward sloping conical flange surface. The conical flange surface is defined between a radially inner circular ridge and a radially outer circular edge. The bottom disk in the stack is in contact with the flange inner circular ridge. The disk stack assembly also includes a disk clamp with a contact surface having a contact rim that is in contact with either the radially inner portion of the top disk in the stack or a spacer ring. The clamp contact rim is located at approximately the same radial distance from the hub's central cylindrical axis as the flange circular ridge so that the clamping force is applied to the disks close to the area where the disk stack is supported on the conical flange surface.
