  • Patent number: 5254773
Abstract: A process is disclosed wherein a telomer having the formula BrCH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 (CF.sub.2 CFX).sub.n CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 Br is prepared by reacting a telogen of the formula Br(CF.sub.2 CFX).sub.n CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 Br with ethylene in the presence of an organic free-radical generator, wherein X is fluorine or a trifluoromethyl radical and n is an integer having a value of 1-5. It has been found that, when at least 0.05 mole of said free-radical generator is used for each mole of said telogen, the conversion of the telogen to the telomer is surprisingly increased.

  • Patent number: 5108791
Abstract: A curable organosilicon composition comprises a component having silicon-bonded hydrogen atoms, a component having silicon-bonded radicals reactive therewith, a curing catalyst, a catalyst-inhibitor and a bath life extender. The use of certain compounds, which are ineffective as a bath life extender in the absence of a catalyst inhibitor, effectively extend the room temperature bath life of a silicone coating composition containing a catalyst inhibitor. Being a substantial non-inhibitor for the catalyst the bath life extender component does not effect the cure time and/or cure temperature of the composition. This discovery has permitted the preparation of curable coating compositions which have a long bath life at room temperature and a rapid cure time at elevated temperatures which does not drift to longer intervals as the coating compositions ages over a typical production run.

  • Patent number: 5087716
Abstract: Difunctional halo silicon amide compounds are prepared by cleaving the nitrogen-silicon bond in a nitrogen-silicon heterocycle with a reactive halide. The reaction is straight forward with no intermediates or byproducts. The halo functionality is capable of capping any SiOH group. When the other functionality is an acrylamide, the capped entity may be polymerized or crosslinked by free radical initiators of the acrylamide functionality thereby producing useful products such as paper release coatings and photoresists.

  • Patent number: 4985274
Abstract: Disclosed is a process to reduce oxygen in an inert gas stream by introducing a reducing gas into the inert gas in the presence of an electron beam. This process of reducing oxygen can be used when producing radiation curable release coatings that need a desired release force. These release coatings, particular, are used in the production of pressure sensitive adhesives.

  • Patent number: 4911986
Abstract: Curable organosilicon compounds which contain (meth)acryl-amido-substituted hydrocarbon radicals have their viscosities greatly reduced by the addition of a small amount of a vinyl monomer compound. Advantageously, the resulting compositions are more easily applied to a substrate, such as paper, in fast-paced coating operations without the significant loss of useful properties, such as the cure rate of the curable composition and the adhesive release behavior of the cured composition.

  • Patent number: 4798818
Abstract: What is described is a process for preparing a more effective catalyst for the vapor-phase reaction of 1,1,1,3-tetrachloropropane with anhydrous hydrogen fluoride to produce 3,3,3-triflurorpropene-1. The process comprises (A) mechanically mixing, in the absence of water, of (i) aluminum fluoride which has been prepared at temperatures less than about 400.degree. C. and (ii) a transition metal compound, the transition metal compound being selected from a group consisting of compounds of cobalt, chromium, iron, manganese, nickel, titanium, and vanadium; and (B) contacting the mechanical mixture with sufficient anhydrous HF to convert the transition metal compound to a transition metal fluoride. Also described is the catalyst. Additionally, a process for the preparation of 3,3,3-trifluoropropene-1 in which the catalyst is utilized is described.

  • Patent number: 4783552
Abstract: Organosilicon compositions which cure by way of a metal-catalyzed reaction of silicon-bonded hydroxyl radicals and/or silicon-bonded olefinic hydrocarbon radicals with silicon-bonded hydrogen atoms are stabilized for hours at room temperature by the incorporation of a hydrocarbonoxyalkyl maleate. However, the stabilized compositions are rapidly curable at low elevated temperature. Liquid organopolysiloxane compositions of this invention are particularly useful for coating operations, particularly paper coating operations to prepare an adhesive-releasing layer.
