  • Patent number: 6767431
Abstract: In the manufacture of a paper or board web (W), the web is slit or cut, the rising/lowering (H) of the edges of a slit/cut gap (C) formed at the slitting/cutting point or the width (L) of the gap is measured by means of a measurement device (21A; 21B; 21C), and the curl of the paper or board web (W) is regulated based on the result of measurement. A paper or board machine line has means for regulating curl in the web (W); means for slitting or cutting the paper or board web and for measuring the rising/lowering (H) of the edges of a slit/cut gap (C) formed at the slitting/cutting point or the width (L) of the slit/cut gap (C) in connection with the manufacture of the web (W) in order to regulate the curl of the web (W) based on the result of measurement.

  • Publication number: 20040050517
Abstract: The invention relates to a method in a paper or board machine, in which method water is removed from a paper or board web (W) by pressing in a press section (30), in which pressing stage the web (W) is pressed in at least one press nip (35; 36), and in which method the web (W) is dried after pressing by impingement drying, in which method the web (W) is passed as a closed draw from the press section (30) to a dryer section (40), and the method applies full-width threading from the press section (30) to the dryer section (40). The web (W) is dried by impingement drying by means of impingement units (46) placed around at least one large-diameter impingement roll (45). In the method, the web (W) is passed after impingement drying as a closed draw through the dryer section (40) to a calender (60), and in the method threading is accomplished as of full width through the dryer section (40).

  • Publication number: 20040035539
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for web threading in a drying section of a paper machine or the like. A leader (24) and a so called run-down strip are formed by cutting in the web coming to the drying cylinder in the drying section. An underpressure box (18) is arranged at the opening gap between the drying cylinder (14) and the drying wire, on that side of the wire which is away from the web, whereby this box can direct against the web an underpressure which is controllable in the machine's cross direction. The underpressure box creates an underpressure region (34′) between the leader and the underpressure box, the region having an underpressure p1 at the detachment point, i.e. in the area where the wire is detached from said drying cylinder (14), which underpressure is sufficient to detach the leader from said drying cylinder.

  • Patent number: 6662468
Abstract: A high speed dryer section has single-wire draw drying groups (R1, RN). A paper or board web (W) is supported by a wire (F) as it meanders over drying cylinders (20) in an upper row and reversing cylinders/rolls (21) in a lower row. A first cylinder drying group (R1) has at least five drying cylinders. In the first cylinder drying group (R1) a runnability component (30) is placed in a pocket space defined by every two successive drying cylinders (20) and the reversing roll (21) between them and by the drying wire (F) for applying a high under-pressure of 1000-8000 Pa to an area (50Y) in which the web (W) separates from the drying cylinder (20), and by which runnability component (30) a lower under-pressure of 100-500 Pa is produced in at least part of the rest of the pocket space (T).

  • Publication number: 20030183354
Abstract: A paper web (w) is passed from the press section (10) to the drying section in a paper machine. The drying section has at least one transfer suction roll (16) for passing the web in a closed draw from the transport belt (12) of the press section to the drying wire (F) of the first cylinder drying group (14). The cylinder drying group has at least one vacuum box (30) stabilising the travel of the web. A high negative pressure is maintained in the transfer suction roll, this pressure being between −35 kPa and −80 kPa in order to attach the web to the drying wire.

  • Patent number: 6612158
Abstract: A web is passed over a surface (11) which is at least partly curved in the running direction of the web, which extends across the web in the cross direction, and which is placed at a distance from the web, in which connection an air cushion is formed between the moving web and the curved surface. The temperature and moisture of the web are measured indirectly by measuring the temperature and moisture of the air cushion by several detectors (41) which are in communication with openings (40) formed in the curved surface in spaced relationship with one another in the cross direction of the web.

  • Patent number: 6523278
Abstract: The invention concerns a dryer section, comprising at least one dryer group (R) that makes use of single-wire draw and/or twin-wire draw and at least one suction roll (10) with which the web (W) to be dried is in direct contact. The surface construction of the suction roll (10) is of a fine structure so that the web (W) can be passed to run over the suction roll (10) in direct contact with the roll so that the web (W) is not damaged.
