  • Publication number: 20100085951
Abstract: A system for managing the operation of a plurality of radio modules integrated within the same wireless communication device. A control strategy may be employed to manage both more predictable and more spontaneous wireless communication mediums, wherein a local controller may be employed in a radio module utilizing an unscheduled wireless medium, like WLAN, for determining whether adequate time has been allocated to complete a transaction. If the transaction cannot be completed in the allowed time, it may be delayed until adequate time exists, and the delay may be reported so that the time may be reallocated to other radio modules. The radio module may then enter a power-saving mode until the transaction can be completed.

  • Publication number: 20090245221
Abstract: A system for managing a plurality of wireless communication mediums that may operate in a substantially simultaneous manner. The plurality of wireless communication mediums may be supported by one or more radio modules in the same device. Parameters related to applications, device and/or wireless communication mediums may be used to create operational schedule(s) for the plurality of wireless communication mediums that dictate when each medium is allowed to be active. At least one of the plurality of wireless communication mediums may support co-located reporting, and this functionality may used in concert with the operational scheduling in order to reduce potential conflicts while also reducing resource consumption in other devices.

  • Publication number: 20080242347
Abstract: An apparatus, computer program product and method concern first and at least second radios adapted to operate according to respective first and second wireless radio systems, and which share hardware. While the first radio is inactive, first hardware configuration data HCD for the first radio is written to a first configuration register set. While the second radio is inactive, second HCD for the second radio is written to a second configuration register set. The first radio is switched to active by selecting the first configuration register and configuring at least the shared hardware according to the first HCD of the first configuration register set. The second radio is switched to active and the first radio is switched to inactive by selecting the second configuration register set and configuring at least the shared hardware according to the second HCD of the second configuration register set. For a tangible result, the respective radios transmit via according to the respective wireless radio systems.

  • Publication number: 20080205317
Abstract: The invention relates to link establishment in a wireless communication terminal. In order to obtain flexible and low power connections between a wireless terminal belonging to a short-range wireless network and an external wireless communication device not belonging to that network, a protection frame is sent either from the wireless communication terminal or from the external wireless communication device. The protection frame includes duration information used for virtual carrier-sensing in the short-range wireless network. In response to the protection frame, data is transferred between the wireless communication terminal and the external wireless communication device during a time period indicated by the duration information.

  • Publication number: 20080108397
Abstract: The invention relates to a mechanism for decreasing power consumption in a wireless terminal intended for a communication system where availability of a common air medium is to be determined by the terminal prior to transmission. The terminal selects at least one communication device as a communicating peer and adjusts receiver performance based on received signal strength and optionally other parameters measured from at least one of the at least one wireless communication device, the receiver performance being adjusted for listening to the at least one wireless communication device with reduced power consumption. The terminal further generates an indication when its own transmission is approaching and readjusts the receiver performance for determining the availability of the common air medium at a performance level enabling detection of devices that may be disturbed by said own transmission.

  • Publication number: 20080081629
Abstract: The invention relates to a mobile terminal, for instance. The terminal includes a processing unit for receiving operations relating to at least two communication processes of different radio communication systems, wherein each communication process includes a critical operation and one or more pre-requisite operations, and wherein a scheduling window defining a time window within which an operation is to be scheduled is defined for each operation. There is provided a shared medium for handling operations relating to the communication processes and a scheduler for scheduling the operations to the shared medium, the scheduler scheduling the operations such that the pre-requisite operations precede the critical operation of that communication process, and each pre-requisite operation is scheduled to its scheduling window.
