  • Patent number: 6605189
Abstract: Suction box in a paper machine including a vacuum chamber, a deck or a number of substantially U-section holders open toward a wire and ribs arranged in the deck or the holders so that they can be loaded against the wire. At least in a running situation, the deck of the suction box is curved or the ribs are arranged to provide a curve run of the wire so that the wire tension of the curved run over the deck or ribs serves to lower a normal force which is produced by the vacuum present in the suction box and which is effective between the wire and the deck or ribs.

  • Patent number: 6533900
Abstract: A method in a paper machine for transferring a paper web from a wet wire in a former section to a pick-up fabric or an equivalent transfer fabric of a press section, including the steps of forming a pick-up point on the wet wire and separating an edge strip from at least one edge of the web prior to the pick-up point by means of at least one cutting device. The method further includes separating the web from the wet wire and passing the web onto the pick-up fabric at the pick-up point. The method also includes applying a pressure difference to the at least one edge strip through the wet wire or the pick-up fabric at or after the pick-up point to cause the at least one edge strip to either follow the wet wire or become separated from the pick-up fabric after the pick-up point and to be placed in a broke system arranged beneath the paper machine.

  • Patent number: 6471827
Abstract: A sample collecting device takes samples from the white water drained from the web through the wire in the wire part, at a number of points in the cross direction of the web. An analyzer analyses the samples and forms a retention profile for controlling the paper machine. The device for measurement and regulation of the retention profile comprises means for measurement of the retention profile across the web width from different points of width of the web. The headbox comprises ducts passing to different points of width of the headbox to pass a flow of liquid containing a retention agent in the headbox into connection with the stock flow to regulate the retention profile across the web width. The ducts have valves which are regulated on the basis of the retention profile data for regulating the retention agent into duct flow.

  • Patent number: 6368462
Abstract: The invention relates to a headbox (10) for a paper/boardmaking machine. The headbox (10) including a stock flow header (11) and, following the stock flow header, a piping system such as an inlet pipe manifold, and/or a turbulence generator (14) and a tapered slice (15), wherefrom the stock is passed onto the forming wire (H1). The construction of said headbox further includes a flow header (J) for a dilution liquid the flow header having connected thereto an inlet channel (S1), a return pipe (S2) and outlet channels (D1, D2, D3, . . . ) that are distributed over the full length of said flow channel for passing the dilution water to control valves (V1, V2, . . . ) and, therefrom, further to different points along the cross-machine width of the headbox so as to mix with the stock delivered from the stock flow header (11) in order to control the consistency of the stock to a desired value, thus accomplishing the control of the web basis weight profile in cross-machine direction over the headbox.

  • Patent number: 5607554
Abstract: A loading box adjustable in zones thereof for a former of a paper or board machine. The former comprises a twin-wire section including two wires placed one above the other and running in the same transfer direction. In the twin-wire section, a drain box is mounted at one side of the wires to remove water out of a fibrous pulp running between the wires. At the opposite side of the wires, a loading box is mounted and is provided with loading ribs arranged in the transverse direction in relation to the transfer direction and which extend across the web width. The loading ribs are loaded toward the bottom of the drain box in order to produce a desired compression in the fibrous pulp running between the wires. The loading box is provided with loading members arranged to produce a locally raising or lowering force applied to the loading ribs in the direction transverse to the transfer direction.

  • Patent number: 5573644
Abstract: An apparatus for guiding a wire including a device for producing a washing jet and a device for removing washing mist generated from the washing jet which has a suction box. The suction box is located on an opposite side of the wire from the device for producing a washing jet. The suction box has a duct through which the mist produced in the washing of the wire is passed into an inlet chamber. The duct is arranged at an angle, preferably at an acute angle, relative to the running direction of the wire. In conjunction with, a mist suction device, there is provided a list which is in contact with the wire and deflects the wire so that the direction of arrival of the wire at the list differs from the direction of departure of the wire from the list.

  • Patent number: 5573643
Abstract: A twin-wire web former in a paper machine, having a single-wire initial portion, after which a twin-wire zone starts in the area of a ribbed deck of a first forming shoe placed inside one of the wire loops. After the first forming shoe, a pressure-loaded dewatering unit is arranged and which includes opposite sets of ribs and dewatering chambers. A first dewatering chamber in the dewatering unit is placed above the first forming shoe so as to remove water that drains from the area of the curved ribbed deck of the first forming shoe through its suction-deflector duct. The first dewatering chamber is followed by a second dewatering chamber, whose lower part is connected with a set of dewatering and guide ribs having gap spaces into which a drain duct of the second dewatering chamber opens. Against the set of dewatering and guide ribs, a set of loading ribs operates, which is placed inside the opposite wire loop and which operates by means of the medium pressure of loading hoses.

  • Patent number: 5552021
Abstract: A method, device, and arrangement in a paper machine for regulating the control of the transverse profile or profiles of properties of a paper web produced therein. Water is removed from the paper web under compression between two forming wires by making use of dewatering and/or forming ribs. The deflection of the dewatering and/or forming ribs in the transverse direction of the web is regulated thereby affecting the retention profile of the paper web in the cross direction. By regulating the deflection of the dewatering and/or forming ribs, the transverse fiber-orientation profile and/or the filler profile of the paper web is influenced through the control of the transverse retention profile of the web.
