  • Patent number: 8885734
Abstract: A system (21) comprises a first circuit (23) for transmitting information to a second circuit (22). The first circuit (23) comprises a signal generator (34) arranged to generate a signal (31) for transmission to the second circuit (22). The signal (31) has a first state for causing the second circuit (22) to perform a first operation and a second state for causing the second circuit (22) to perform a second operation. The signal generator (34) comprises means to modulate the generated signal (31) during a data burst period (52) to encode data into the generated signal (31). The data burst period (52) occurs within a period in which the generated signal (31) is in the second state. The signal (31) is modulated such that the encoded data is distinguishable from the generated signal (31). In an embodiment, a data burst period (52a, 52b) comprises a plurality of data periods (54) during which the state of the signal is representative of the data encoded in the signal (31).

  • Publication number: 20060098617
Abstract: A method is disclosed to operate a dual mode multi-timeslot RF transmitter, as is an RF transmitter that include a control unit that operates in accordance with the method. The method includes, prior to a first timeslot, setting a plurality of control signals for the RF transmitter in accordance with a first modulation format used during the first timeslot; and during a guard period between the first timeslot and a next, temporally adjacent timeslot, setting the plurality of control signals for the RF transmitter in accordance with a second modulation format used during the second timeslot, where the first modulation format differs from the second modulation format.

  • Publication number: 20030045243
Abstract: The invention pertains to a method and an arrangement for linearizing a radio receiver (20). The invention is advantageously applied in the reception circuits of mobile stations. A receiver according to the invention monitors the signal strength on the receive channel and its neighboring channels. In addition, the receiver can determine the quality of the detected signal by calculating its bit error ratio or signal-to-noise ratio. In normal conditions, i.e. when the signal strength is satisfactory on the receive channel and normal on the neighboring channels, the supply currents of the front-end amplifiers (A1, A2) and at least the first mixer (M1) of the receiver are kept relatively small. If the signal strength on the receive channel goes below a predetermined value or, on a neighboring channel, exceeds a predetermined value, said supply currents are increased. This may happen also if the bit error ratio or signal-to-noise ratio reaches a predetermined limit.

  • Patent number: 6393260
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and radio receiver for attenuating spurious signals when receiving (6 to 12) radio signals, when radio signals are mixed (10) to a second frequency, which may be the baseband frequency, for example. Spurious signals are caused by balance errors in the mixer (10) which result from component value fluctuations within tolerance limits. According to the invention, mixing is balanced by setting (12) variable-level bias voltages and/or currents to transistors in the mixer circuit (10). An advantage of the invention is that even-order spurious signals caused by balance errors in the mixing of a signal to a second frequency are considerably attenuated. The invention finds particular utility in a mobile communications device, for example.
