  • Publication number: 20180261357
Abstract: A multi-phase cable, the cable including a plurality of conductors for conducting currents of two or more different phases, each phase being associated with one or more conductors and each conductor being associated with one respective phase. Each conductor has a cross-section with at least one dimension that is sized to decrease a skin effect of the conductor at a maximum or nominal operation frequency of the conductor. The conductors are arranged to permit free air cooling of the cable on at least two sides of each conductor, and such that each conductor of a given phase has, as immediate neighbors, only conductors of one or more different phases.
    Type: Application

  • Publication number: 20180010980
Abstract: There is described a shaft shear event detection method. The method comprises obtaining a demodulated waveform of a shaft oscillation wave superimposed on a shaft rotational speed signal, comparing the amplitude to an amplitude threshold, detecting oscillation when the amplitude threshold is exceeded for a plurality of samples, and detecting a shaft shear when oscillation continues for a predetermined time limit.

  • Publication number: 20170205312
Abstract: There is described a shaft shear event detection method. The method comprises storing in memory a shaft oscillation signature determined as a function of known characteristics of the shaft and associated with a shaft shear event; monitoring a rotational speed of the shaft; detecting from the rotational speed an oscillation wave superimposed on the rotational speed, the oscillation wave having a wave modulation frequency and a wave modulation amplitude; comparing the oscillation signature to the oscillation wave; and detecting the shaft shear event when the oscillation wave corresponds to the oscillation signature.

  • Patent number: 9169742
Abstract: An electrical control system for distinguishing between an electrical fault and a shaft shear condition in a gas turbine engine, the control system including, in one aspect, a detection circuit including: two or more probes, each probe including an associated resistor having a predetermined range of resistance, and each probe being disposed in the engine adjacent a rotary mounted shaft component, where mechanical interference between one or more of the probes and the shaft component renders the associated resistor substantially non-conductive; sensor processor(s) in communication with each probe, determining a probe operational status based on a measured resistance to current conducted through each probe, and generating a fault code when the measured resistance of at least one of the plurality of probes is not within the predetermined range of resistance.

  • Patent number: 8664905
Abstract: Systems and methods for generating a signal useful in the commutation of current through windings of brushless direct current electric motors are provided. Such methods comprises detecting a kickback pulse in a non-driven winding of a motor; detecting a rotor-induced zero crossing in the non-driven winding following the detection of the kickback pulse; and using the detection of the rotor-induced zero crossing to generate a signal useful in commutation of the motor.

  • Patent number: 8608496
Abstract: A connector for multi-phase conductors. The connector includes conductors for conducting multi-phase currents, and at least one conductive plate corresponding to each phase. Each conductive plate defines apertures for the conductors to pass through, there being at least one aperture in each conductive plate for each respective conductor. Each conductive plate includes at least one connecting member for forming an external electrical connection. Each conductor passes through a respective aperture of each conductive plate. Each conductor is selectively coupled to form electrical connection only to a conductive plate corresponding to the respective phase of the conductor.
