Abstract: Load-balancing is achieved in a wireless switching system or other client/server system operating over a digital network by transmitting current server loads to the clients, which then include the transmitted server load value in an ensuing reply. If the system load changes significantly between the original transmission of the server load and the receipt of the ensuing message from the client, connections to the client can be rejected, redirected to another server or otherwise processed as appropriate. Although the load balancing techniques can be implemented in any type of client/server environment, they are well-suited to wireless switch architectures that include wireless access points providing an interface between user modules and the wireless switch.
