Publication number: 20220204056Abstract: The technology relates to planning trajectories for self-driving vehicles in order to transport passengers or cargo from a pickup location to a destination. Trajectory planning includes generating a speed plan for an upcoming portion of the trip in view of one or more constraints. The constraints may be due to proximity to an adjacent vehicle or other road user, and can include projected overlaps between the vehicle and other objects in the vehicle's nearby environment. Certain constraints may be binary or otherwise discontinuous in nature, in which a condition either exists at a given point in time or it does not. Noise in sensor data or prediction models may trigger such binary conditions, which in turn may cause the vehicle to alter the speed plan. Aspects of the technology employ permeable speed constraints that enable the vehicle to avoid problems associated with discontinuous constraints.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 22, 2021Publication date: June 30, 2022Inventors: Jared Stephen Russell, Tobias Kunz, Anup Menon

Publication number: 20210399546Abstract: A dynamic simulation engine, having system parameters, may be provided for a component of an electrical power system (e.g., a generator, wind turbine, etc.). A model parameter tuning engine may receive, from a measurement data store, measurement data measured by an electrical power system measurement unit (e.g., a phasor measurement unit or digital fault recorder measuring a disturbance event). The model parameter tuning engine may then pre-condition the measurement data and set-up an optimization problem based on a result of the pre-conditioning. The system parameters of the dynamic simulation engine may be determined by solving the optimization problem with an iterative method until at least one convergence criteria is met. According to some embodiments, solving the optimization problem includes a Jacobian approximation that does not call the dynamic simulation engine if an improvement of residual meets a pre-defined criteria.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 5, 2018Publication date: December 23, 2021Inventors: Anup MENON, Chaitanya Ashok BAONE, Honggang WANG, Mustafa Tekin DOKUCU

Publication number: 20180284706Abstract: A dispatch optimization system leverages ambient and market forecast data as well as asset performance and parts-life models to generate recommended operating schedules for gas turbines or other power-generating plant assets that substantially maximize profit while satisfying parts-life constraints. The system generates operating profiles that balance optimal peak fire opportunities with optimal cold part-load opportunities within a maintenance interval or other operating horizon. To reduce the computational burden associated with generating the profit-maximizing operating profile, the system uses an estimated price of life value that accounts for creation (by cold part-loading) and exhaustion (by peak fire operation) of factored fired hour credits by means of computing the cost of such credits.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 31, 2017Publication date: October 4, 2018Inventors: Olugbenga Anubi, Anup Menon, Aditya Kumar
