  • Patent number: 7016554
Abstract: The present invention provides an optical modulator for modulating an optical carrier by an electrical signal. The modulator comprises a first and a second waveguide for guiding the optical carrier, each waveguide is formed from, or being juxtaposed with respect to, an electro-optic material. The modulator also comprises a series of cavities associated with the first waveguide and the second waveguide and means for applying the electrical signal having a predetermined bandwidth to the cavities. The cavities have a resonant frequency within the predetermined bandwidth. The present invention also provides a device for optical single sideband with carrier (OSSB+C) transmission. The device has parallel-coupled cavities.
    Type: Grant
